evo ix turbo on evo viii

im bout to buy a 2006 evo ix turbo off some guy for $450 with an aftermarket O2 housing. i was just wondering if its worth putting an evo ix turbo in an evo viii, ive heard its good, but does it increase turbo lag? or anything else i should know? thanx

Technically speaking it will be a little laggier, however you will never be able to really tell the difference. The IX will be able to flow more air, therefore netting more horsepower and torque than the 9.8 your VIII turbo can. That sounds like a good deal, port things up and start modding.

yeah i read somethin bout some guy that dynoed his car before and after an evo ix turbo install, and without a tune he gained 25 hp throughout the powerband. sounds good to me. im just curious if he ever got it tuned and what he ended up with.

The oil lines you have (for an VIII) will not bolt right up to the IX turbo. Either buy the kit or plan on making something yourself.

Play it safe, buy it.

You don't need the install kit. Just find someone that has the evo 9 J-pipe to replace the 8 turbo pipe. Order up copper gaskets from mits. and call it a day. The water lines have to be bent a little to line up.

Just bend the oil and water line. The J pipe has to be sourced from a IX. Port your exh. manifold while you're at it. The lag isn't too noticable but it's there.

Oil lines will line up, when I installed my green turbo, same compressor cover as the evo 9 turbo. You can see when I installed mine on my old 2005 I had to use a hammer to slightly bend the coolant line above the compressor.

If you look at my pic above. It's the black pipe that bolts to the compressor side of the turbo. The other side connects to your LICP via the coupler under your car.
