What would you guys recommend for a 450whp Evo IX...I'm going from 6spd to 5spd but dont know if I should go with 4.11 final drive...I do street driving, highway, occasional drag and looking to get into road course as a hobby on some weekends, have no clue what to go with...
right now it's on stock block but I'm planning on getting a built 2.0
has...
AMS F1-I Manifold
35R
272 Kelford Cams
AMS FMIC
AEM EMS
basically all the bolt-ons

From what I've read the 4.11's would be very nice if you were runnin a 2.0l with more than 350ft lbs. of torque and that the 3.73's were intended for stroker motors producing more than 425ft lbs. of torque like it says here.

yeah IMO the 3.73 is just too long, even for a stroker.
4.11 on a 2.0 i think is more for the drag racing who wants to rev out 4th gear to negate the requirement for 5th down the 1/4.
My car has the 4.11 installed (2.3/35R) and i am getting it back today, so i will post my thoughts after driving it.

I trapped 135 and I believe Im at about 8000rpms before a cut off the trottle in 4th gear. I have a shep trans with an evo9 1st gear, but other than that I dont think I have a shorter final drive. Next time I head to the track with added boost I try to see where rpms are as I pass the traps.

Sitting at 2450rpm @ 100kph (~60mph) is much better than almost 3k rpm, i seem to be getting much better fuel economy on highway driving too which is great.
No WOT testing as yet, car being tuned tommorow on low boost (20psi) and then i am taking a 2000km road trip so i will post a better review after that with some 80kph-120kph testing / fuel econ etc.
So far, very good mod for a stroker motor with lots of torque (~600nm / 450ft/lbs)

stock ratios, just changed the final drive.
Dont let anyone scare you into thinking you loose stupid ammounts of acceleration, going to a 4.11 is an 8% change, and your car and mine have double the power and torque of the standard car, so 8% longer gears is no drama. Feels really good actually.

Kinda Back from the dead. But whatever happened with the 4.11? Did you Ever make a pass? And I noticed in the first post that the limit was at 7000 RPMs, I assume that if you took your RPMs to 8100 you would gain a considerable amount of MPH's. Also If you have an EVO 9 5 speed you would like to have an EVO 8 3rd and 4th, To make the gears longer. That way you can trap around 137ishhh.. Anyone have any other thoughts?

I upgraded to a New Evo 8 trans and changed to a 4.11 gear set at 340whp. I'm planing on roadracing the car and adding more power. Long story short, unless you have a stroker/2.4 I'd recommend the stock gearset for the fun factor around town.
Pros- Car has longer legs and feels more like a regular/relaxed car off boost . You aren't constantly shifting . Cruise on the highway is quite nice. 80mph is extremely comfortable and gets decent mileage. I haven't tracked it yet but I'm sure it will be nicer having taller gears.
Cons- It makes starting off a little harder and the car is slower all around at that power level. I went from 12.4 @113 traps to 12.8@107 traps in the 1/4 at the same power level. Starting off or backing up is a little chattery with an act 6 puck. I'm going to put a full face disk in it next time the trans is out.
I went to E85 on the stock turbo and made 398/398 and the car still felt slow with the 4.11 gearing. Installed an FP Red on E-85 and daily drive at 460whp and its pretty well balanced but still slower then a stock geared car. I ran the car at the drag strip and left pretty soft (10psi) and it went 11.7@119 crossing around 6700-7000 IIRC.
I'm going with a 2.2 and will turn up the boost and report back. I may even go back to the stock 4.59 gearset.

You will love it. You will be in boost longer and shift less so you'll run through the traps in gear vs rowing. Your traps speeds will almost certainly increase due to being in gear longer. It might even help spool a tiny bit as it adds more load to your engine but nothing amazing.

As far as the 24.5 slick vs 26" slick question. I'd run a 26" and high rpm until the car started to drift around at the topend because of the tall tire. The tall tire and high hp can start to become a handful at high speeds. IMO , less then 140-150 traps a 26" should be fine.
If the car is drifting around a lot you could change to a 4.11 and a 24.5" slick and the car should drift around less with the short sidewall.
