2.0L 35R Question!

I'll be finishing up my build here before too long and I've got a couple questions about it once we get into the tuning phase, just want to know what some of your opinions are.

I'm running a 2.0L motor, bored .020, Wiseco 1400HD pistons 10:1CR, Manley Turbo Tuff Long Rods, stock crank. GT35R turbo .82ar. My fuel of choice will be E85. On an AEM EMS tune. My questions are as follows..

1. What kind of boost should I be able to run my turbo up to safely given the Compression Ratio and fuel choice?

2. After I get springs and retainers and my Kelford 280 cams, what should be a safe shifting point? 8k rpms? 8500rpms? higher!?

3. What should my air to fuel ratio be at under WOT? I've heard with E85 you can run a little leaner but just how lean?

I'd just rather not blow another motor so any information will be greatly appreciated. And BTW I'm not going to be the one tuning it, my tuner is going to be someone familiar with E85 tuning, but not so much with Evos specifically.. more DSMs and Supras.

Thanks,

- Tyler G.

These questions all need to be answered by your engine builder and tuner.. any suggestions you get to those questions are meaningless as your tuner is ultimately the one in control of what he feels safe running your car at based on what he sees while logging it..

Shift point?? wait til it dynos and see where the powerband is.. nobody can answer that either..

I figured my tuner would be able to answer these questions for me but ive just had a couple of tuning nightmares with the stock ecu and I was just wondering for myself so I know if my tuner is spot on but if it all varies car to car then youre probably right and Ill just have to wait and see til we start tuning to see what happens. Im just so nervous. But hey I also sent you a PM earlier today! : ) Just shoot me a response when youve got a chance.

Thanks,
- Tyler G.

10:1 and E85 are a good start. I would still run 11.8-12.0 on a gas calibrated wideband (which pretty much ALL are).

Yeah i have an AEM wideband. Im hoping on 30psi or so to hit 500whp. If I can do that Ill be pretty damn happy.

Kelford 280s
RNR 3" FMIC and uicp
custom downpipe
AWDmotorsports T3 manifold
AEM

should make for a pretty fun ride. : ) just hope its reliable.

30lbs is a reasonable goal for boost when your on E85. Since your not going to be tuning your car, the tuner will prob get you around 12.0-12.5 afr.
Just choose your tuner carefully!! Since your investing A LOT, you gotta make sure you take it to someone who has alot of experience with AEM EMS!

Good luck

Yah, there's actually two people I have in mind here locally that are pretty experienced with tuning on AEM, they've tuned their own and several other peoples cars without issues. One of these people does a lot of DSM tuning and the other is mostly Supra tuning. His supra makes 1,100whp and his girlfriends supra made 870whp. It'll probably end up going to the guy who does the DSM tuning just because it won't be as difficult to get my car to him and he'll have much more time to work on it. Driveability is supposedly the hard part, from what I've been told, anyone who knows how to tune can do tune for WOT without a problem, but it takes a good tuner and lots of time to get the driveability tuning down.

BTW I will be making a build thread here soon with all the details and lots of pics! I hope it all goes smoothly!

I would agree as I am working on driveability right now. You really just have to get a good base shape to work with on the graph and then adjust your fuel at different loads/speeds or different gears at part throttle. Watch your O2 correction percentage and try to get that to 0 or at least close to it. Once you get your points of part throttle mapped, you can smooth your graph between your points in the general shape you are shooting for.

I have tried the full boost comp with throttle correction, but it doesn't account for load, so you can never dial it in for all gears. I am starting to switch to a hybrid so I can account for load changes too. Should make the car much more driveable in the lower gears.
