Best Cams for Me???:::
Best Cams for Me???:::
I will be running:
FP White
walbro 255
Injen intake
Invida exhaust
Invida UICP/ LICP
APR Headstuds
I have been looking around the forums and i cant figure out what size/ type of cam to get. This is mostly due to having an aftermarket turbo but it not really being too much bigger then a stock 9's. What size would suit me the best?
Also, i have had my eyes on the kelford 272s but would i really need to spend the big money to get kelfords if i dont have a very extensive upgrade list. Could i put out about (withing 10 hp) the same power with another, cheaper cam that i could find used.

Its a daily driver but it does see some limited autox and track time. Power is a big issue for me but but within 10hp, i could care less. Honestly, im more about bang for my buck, not highest power possible.

HKS are old cams and to be honest I have no idea why people would still buy, use, or suggest them to anyone. With your turbo I would go with GSC S1's. With the right tuning they will yeild more power over the HKS cams and you will have a good cross of midrange and highend power. So slamming the gas out of the turn the turbo is there and your top end fall off shouldn't be that bad as compared to the HKS's
Also another suggestion to your mods would be injectors maybe 720's and a IC like a 3" ETS core. That should compliment the FP White very nicely.

As far as cams I would definitly go with either GSC S1's or Kelford 264/260. Like stated above going with a 272 on a white setup would move your power to the right which is not necessary.
A upgraded fmic and some injectors would def be goood for your setup too. I would recomend a Buschur street core for your current setup. For injectors if you can swing the $500 price ID1000's. They will have stock driveability and plenty of fuel. With adjustment of fuel pressure they can flow around 1500cc. If you dont wanna spend the cash on the ID's go with Precision 1000's.

Don't knock the HKS, they are grinded from mitsu core, have never seen any reliability problems, and virtually no power loss down low.

On your set-up HKS 272's vs Kelford 272's might equate to 15-18hp on your powerband believe it or not, its true that you loose some spool but whats 150-200rpms vs 15-18HP through the MidRange and Topend. IMO they are worth it.
Also keep in mind the AMS cam test is getting on in age itself, although loaded with great data. I agree that the HKS cams are old, provide modest gains, and don't cost much. But there are much better performing cams out there in this day and age. GSC has also made revisions to their cams since the AMS test was performed.
Do a search for big cams, stock turbo, read the very long thread, and I think you will come to the conclusion that more aggressive cams don't really hurt turbo cars as much as their NA counterparts, so there's no real reason to go with a mild cam. Although I will make an exception if you autocross an awful lot at a very competitive level and a punchy mid-range is a must.
And lastly, look through some of the recent dyno threads to find a powerband you like, and see what cams they are using (assumming similar mods as you are choosing). All that being said, my vote goes to GSC S2's as the camshaft of choice right now.
