Low boost? This might be your problem!

First off, I am a fairly new EVO 9 MR owner and must say I love the car. I wasn't quite sure what the factory boost output was supposed to be, but searching this forum made me realize my boost was extremely low. Instead of 1.3 bar tapering to 1.0-1.1, I was lucky to reach .6 bar at the peak. I looked through every thread pertaining to low boost issues, only to find all the solutions in those threads led me nowhere. The root cause of my low boost pressure was high exhaust backpressure, which would only let the turbo spool up so far before the backpressure became too great. I pulled out my catalytic converter and took a peek inside...only to find the cat had melted down, some broken into chunks, some intact but plugged just about solid. Drove the car without the cat and my boost was normal. Now the car drives live an evo should. Hope this helps some of you out there with mysterious low boost issues.

Located in a little town called Minot, ND. Didn't gut the cat out... Still under warranty for now. I live about 300 miles from a mitsu dealer though, so for now I fabbed up a pipe until I can getto the dealer. Can't believe the difference though.

I'll be driving through minot on my way out to montana on friday or saturday. Don't make me pick up a testpipe from MAP and beat you with it! Ditch that b!tch.

I had the same problem after a track day. The car didn't want to boost and had lost alot of power. It turned out the substrate in my cat became loose and was in pieces. After hammering it out the power immediately returned.

No need to beat me with a test pipe....made my own...and for now I would like my warranty to stay intact....that's why I'm gonna have the cat replaced...which, by the way, will be removed and placed in my tool box as soon as I get back to town with it haha...nice to know a fellow evo owner will be coming through town though
