Balance-Shaft-Eliminator-Kit BR V.S AMS

ok so search yields nothing useful unless i read over it in the long list of posts.

im looking for the best one.

i head ams's kit is the one to get. i hear BR's kit is the same type of kit that could fail and screw up oil punp gears or something.

im really thinking of getting a BR 2.3l shortblock but i cant really tell them i want an AMS Balance Shaft Eliminator Kit in there now can i..

any opinions who has what.

If you trust Buschur to build your motor I would go what he thinks is the best. If you are paying him, I dont think he will mind since you're the customer and its your car

But I went with the ams kit, after reading about 10 different threads on the subject I went with ams as it seemed better for me.

The AMS kit uses a ground down balance shaft to "support" the oil pump to avoid wearing into the oil pump housing. It's a rather cool idea. If you have the money pay for the AMS kit. I've never personally seen any oil pump failures due to the B/S removal with the short stub (BR and other vendors). Not to say it doesn't happen just haven't seen it.

no performance benefit - just a reliability mod.

I chose the AMS eliminator because of the pump housing being destroyed... it's happened enough and by making a free body diagram you can see how it would happen. AMS.

AMS knows there stuff... They wouldn't make it and put it in all there engines if it wasn't beneficial IMHO. They do A LOT of R&D up there i know this 1st hand. I run the AMS BS eliminator and highly suggest it.

I have a good friend of mine that is a big DIY and he made his own shaft just like AMS does for a reason

I chose the AMS one as well. I felt that the added support to the gear was worth 2x the price. Hate to use the stub shaft and wipe an engine out over less than $100. (not that I have seen a stub shaft oil pump fail tho)

I do not understand - why not to do it yourself? AMS idea is of course better - you can do it very ease from fron balane shaft!
