so if i run this on the same car, this would take aprox 9 months if i did the intervals at aprox 3 month running each oil, however i can run the oil at 1K interval but that might not be enough time to punish each of the oil's,,,, this would be testing with one car,

if i used multiple cars then we can get the test done sooner,,, however it would be nice to run the test on the same vehicle.

opinions are welcomed.

This is my honest opinion... I am a Honda tech (I know I'm gonna get some crap over this) and it seems like almost every time a car comes in with a VTEC issue it has AMsoil in the crankcase. Change it our for Honda oil (made my mobil) and all issues are gone. I run Royal Purple in my bike but it gets the oil dropped every 500 miles...so I can't attest to the oil's ability to hold up over a regular oil change interval. Just my 2 cents.

I don't think the test would be a bad idea however, a lot can happen inside an engine in 15,000 miles that could skew the test, the car will certainly be driven during different seasons, and during one of those 5k intravals the car could be beat on more than another (Track days, AutoX, Illegal Nightime Fun )

To me it seems as the test would have too many variables to be real accurate but I'm sure it would still give a idea of how each holds up.

Am I wrong?

a good test would be from someone going on a road trip. do an oil change before there trip. at least 1k miles each way. then do an oil change on the way back. that will show how fast it breaks down too.

I've been running either mobil 1 or Royal Purple 5w30 in my EVO for ~106k miles with no issues so far. this is a car that gets daily driven and sees a lot of track time & autox.

I've been having my oil analyized by blackstone labs since 07, aside from a high lead reading due to spiking the gas with leaded race fuel on track days, everything seems to be in order.

I have more samples from later in '09 waiting to go to Blackstone, but I haven't gotten around to shipping them out yet.

If the amsoil guy is willing to pay for the analysis cost I will do a back to back comparo of all three oils on my EVO.
I even already have the oil sitting on the shelf. only thing is the AMS dominator oil is 0w-30 and the RP & Mobil 1 are 5w-30.

Dan i like this idea,,, this will allow for a clean test and a quick one, road trip= longs miles in short period

i've been hearing the same thing about royal purple and spun bearings. I was recommened to start using eneos, I think i'm going to go that route but there's only 5w-30 around my area.

what would be the pros/cons of running 5w-30 vs using 10w-30 oil?

Sounds like they probably just burned the oil off because they went in to VTEC...

Funny that this thread just happened to come up for me. Advance Auto was running a special for Royal Purple this month, so I thought "What the hell, I'll try it..."

Like posted above, I've heard mixed reviews about RP. Some people swear by it, and others say it's terrible. I figured I'd run it for a few oil changes and make the decision for myself.

Symptoms of the car: Startups and driving are great. I let the car warm to atleast 150 degrees before even putting it in gear. However, from 150-normal operating temp, one of the lifters will start to tick until I start to drive it and get the oil pressure up. After that, I have no problems until the car is cold started again. I've read that Royal Purple SHOULD eliminate this tick for good. I'm skeptical, so we'll see how it goes...

Doing the oil change today, so I'll post back in a few days.
