Is Royal Purple bad for a motor?
RP was designed for racing engines when it first came out so thats why after 1k miles its a slush. I dont think they changed the receipe when they started to make it in mass production, i remember when it fist came out it was the sh*t, but it depends on the car though. Our cars love Mobile one and Amsoil IMO
Justin @ Force-Fed Perf. & I pulled my head to do timing belt stuff, intake manifold, etc...my engine looked great...I'm at 53k now & been running RP since 20k...
I never had a problem with royal purple until just a couple weeks ago. ive been running royal purple in my car since 27k miles and im now at 75k miles and the last 2 weeks ive been getting terrible lifter ticking and stuff. so i switched to amsoil 2 days ago and no more lifter tick!

They dont share data like many other manufacturers, you dont see them running high end testing no API starburst certs, they hate comparing their products to other manufacturers,,,
its obviouse they put a lot of money into advertising and thats how any vendor can get market share.
when i see RP i think about that 90hp honda civic making noise at 1000 db levels
guys not bashing just sharing how they operate,,, i reccomend you run Mobil 1 before you run that oil... at least Mobil meets your OEM specs.
thats why 98% of oil companies have 10W30 and up they dont have the technology to sell an oil of this caliber.

we have a few Camaro SS LS3 customers that run a bypass system and the guy is nuts but he runs our SSO 0W30 to 40,000 miles oil's as long as they have superb detergent and a high TBN number they will whistand any junk you throw at them,,,, i told hi he was crazy BUT its designed to go that long IF you are using a Bypass system, ussually this is something used in diesel and trucks.
and we back up our claim with a waranty, if you scar your cylinders and you proved that our oil was defective with Oil analysis ,,, we pay your engine,,,,, not many oil companies can do that.
Funny that this thread just happened to come up for me. Advance Auto was running a special for Royal Purple this month, so I thought "What the hell, I'll try it..."
Like posted above, I've heard mixed reviews about RP. Some people swear by it, and others say it's terrible. I figured I'd run it for a few oil changes and make the decision for myself.
Symptoms of the car: Startups and driving are great. I let the car warm to atleast 150 degrees before even putting it in gear. However, from 150-normal operating temp, one of the lifters will start to tick until I start to drive it and get the oil pressure up. After that, I have no problems until the car is cold started again. I've read that Royal Purple SHOULD eliminate this tick for good. I'm skeptical, so we'll see how it goes...
Doing the oil change today, so I'll post back in a few days.

Well **** u could probly run any oil in a car like some good old walmart synthetic oil(not that id ever run this). i think that most oils come down to how long they last. from my experience the royal purple breaks down very fast. and for me i dont have money to change oil every 2k miles.
I will have to get the pix out. Royal Purple is far from junk. Expensive yes, and if you buy any non detergent oil it will need changed every 1500-2000. Buy detergent style oil and the deposits and additive package allow it run more like 3k+. Honestly 2,000 miles on race oil in car that is getting beat is a LONG time between oil changes.
Jeff's race motor had more passes on it than can be reliably counted but it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 at or near 1000whp. When it came apart for freshening over the winter there was NO sign of wear on any components.
Bearings were perfect, pistons were perfect (no scuffing of the 1400HD coatings), hone marks were perfect in the block.
