TOB Noise

Ok. I thought my tcase was going but I finally got under the car and I am hearing the noise coming from the Bell Housing. I pull one of the inspection plugs and notice the TOB Wobbling around. Now I don't have any engagement issues. I inspected the TOB when I replaced the trans and this just started a month ago.

As I drive when I am in gear i can hear it when I push the clutch pedal down it goes away.. Should I be concerned? It seems to be driving fine. But it makes a whine That is defiantly coming from the bell housing area and seems to be TOB noise... I have a ACT MB7-HDSS clutch with about 10k on it. Fresh rebuilt 6sp tranny with about 3k on it and I have 33k miles on the motor. Light mods.. I have an IX MR with Cams, DP, exhaust and tune.

Safe to leave it be or should I open it up. I really don't want to drop the trans again if I don't have to.

check the trans oil make sure its clean no shavings in it.

i had a noise i was thinking it was the tob and it was the trans which when i started looking things over it seemed to had a bearing that self destructed it shifted thru all gears fine but had oil that looked like liquid graphite.

i did a 5spd conversion

I did check the tranny fluid. No shavings. I will check again.. If this trans is shot I am going to be PISSED.. I just had it rebuilt.. I am probably just over 300 atw.. I am on a super conservative tune.

ya i hear ya on that i just got this evo about 4 months ago maybe a little over that now and stock ish i probably had 270 atw and i had the 6spd issue so i did the 5spd swap which was a lot of work but at the same time should make it bullet proof hopefully i did a road trip down to florida and now im making 360 whp and 350 trq i paid a lot for the evo and wish the dealership i got it off of didnt screw me but i guess iv learned something good in the long run.. now if i have to i can do a tranny swap or a clutch job or pritty much any thing with enough time and a little help from friends

haveing a lift in my garage helped a lot.

when you had the clutch / trans work done did they replace the tob? with that little miles on it seems like it shouldnt have gone out that fast..

I did the tranny swap. Yah TOB has low miles on it. When I did the tranny rebuild The TOB seemed fine. So Stupid me didn't change it but both myself and Ivey said it seemed fine. I put the tranny back in and no issues.. UNTIL now. And I don't have a lift so doing that tranny swap on jack stands in my garage SUCKED.....

Had the same thing happen before. Its actually the ring on the pressure plate that the TOB engages too. You should be fine tho just gets a lil noisy. You will no if your retaining clip breaks haha.

I could be wrong, but all the TOB's I've had go out only made noise with the clutch in. Could it be something else? A clutch spring broken, maybe?

id just keep an eye on the trans oil and live with the noise till it lets loss and you dont have a choice.. good luck. i know how bad doing the clutch / trans / tob change is.

something you may try i just thought about would be take the hydrolic plunger off so that you can press the tob into the preasure plate maybe it came loose some how? idk just throwing out an idea
