I have a hks hi power exhaust, perrin full intake, dc catless downpipe, walbro 255, and a turboxs boost controller, I am hoping that by adding cams it would be a big power difference

You should pick up LICP. Do some research on running e85. You may also want to invest in a wideband. Speaking of cams, im planning on going with gsc s1 cams. I believe it was AMS who did a comparsion of cams. The thread should be here somewhere. A ton of good stuff in it, should provide the information you need to make your decision

yes with those mods you are siting at around 300-310 whp on a mustang dyno, and by adding cams you will be at around 340-350 whp on a mustang dyno again. i am sure on other dynos you will make more. Thats why they call mustang dynos the heartbreak dynos lol.

i dont really like ams cam test because it was done on a build engine with AMS EMS on an evo 8 ONLY, so the results are gone be different on a stock evo9.

Alright lots of good info thanks, i also dont like the ams cam comparison bc its not on a 9. I guess its worthwhile to get cams. So are the brian crower cams good?

i never got any input on the brian crower cams, they are relatively inexpensive compared to the kelford and the hks. are they just as good?

There is a reason that they are inexpensive. Same reason why you see the "forsale engine drivetrain power" section full of HKS cams and of the sort. Since you are asking everyone what you should put on your car; you probably want to do things right, the first time. Kelford and cosworth are the leaders for a reason. Argueably. Upgraded springs and retainers are a better idea than stock. Lets face it once you roll around on your new set up for about 6 months you will probably want more. BCs are ok for hondas but this is an evo, dont cheap out. You wont regret it.

Yes remember where you want to go. Agressive cams give you great top end but often lack in the low end, you find the same opposite in other cams., I chose the GSC S1 because they gain through out the entire RPM band which is something that not all the cams will give you.

Lobe acceleration profile

I'll add something else to consider:

All 272 cams are not the same. Most cam grinders list cams by advertised duration (typically measured @ .006" lift); a more relevant figure is duration at .050" lift. Valve springs need to control the valve at all times (NASCAR and trick drag motor "lofting" are noted exceptions) without binding or breaking. Any time you "cam" an engine (Briggs 5hp to Top Fuel dragster) you need to make sure that the existing valve springs will support both the lift of the new cam lobes (e.g., won't bind or bottom out the retainer on the valve seal) and the velocity of the new lobes (how fast the valves are opened and shut). A 272 cam with 240 duration at .050 is going to need more spring than a 272 cam with 220 duration at .050. If the cam grinder suggests (not requires) a better spring/retainer/keeper package you should get it.

The duration of the cam doesnt determine whether or not youll need springs and retainers.. there are 280's such as HKS thats in 100's of cars without springs and retainers thats more mild than a Jun 272 for example..

We run GSC s2 in most of our IX's with GREAT GAINS.. almost all of them with stock valvetrain.. Those are a 274 cam..

Here is an example of the GSC s2 in a car we did with stock valvetrain.. It has since made even more power..

Should just go with E85... make sure you have gas stations have E85 before the switch.. But good luck with the cam choice and be sure to come back and tell what you got and what you think GOOD LUCK!!!!

Cosworth and upgrade your springs just to be safe. BC are not bad for springs on quality and cost
