Whine coming from power steering pump... HELP!!!

Well we replaced the water pump, belts, and pulleys last week. Everything was fine car ran great.
Went out and autocrossed a day later and car was great once again. On the way home I was getting a whining noise that was RPM dependent. I then got a P0551 code which is the Power Steering pressure sensor range. My mechanic looked over it and said when he took the belt off the sound disappeared, also I feel that performance out of boost is slightly degraded as well.
Anyone else have this issue? Have I killed the power steering pump?
The steering effort has not increased but it is whining constantly and does rise with the RPMs....

Yeah you can try bleeding it. Jack the car up andget the front wheels in the air, turn it from lock to lock slowly making sure it has plenty of fluid in the res. If that doesn't help it you can put magazines under the front wheels and do the same thing.
