Power steering whining while autocrossing?

Has anyone else had what sounds like power steering pump whining while autocrossing?

I never get this on the street, but it's audible during an autocross run. My best guess is the PS because it sounds exactly like what the GD STi's used to do... just wondering to what extent, if any, this is "normal"...

Thanks

It's due the fluid bouncing around on the reservoir and becoming aerated. The aerated fluid then gets pulled into the pump, and the pump whines. It's not enough air for the power assist to drop off or decrease, just enough for the pump to make some noise.

Same thing happened to me with the whining when autocrossing. I had to add some power steering fluid and the sounds went awway.

Sound is much like the noise from timing belt rubbing crank trigger wheel. Pull serpentine belt with engine cold and start it. If noise is still there then it is not serpentine idlers or accessories. If the noise stops then it is idlers or accessories.

Mine even whines at idle these days, gets that way. It's not a lack of fluid or a bubble thing, when it first stated happening some 5 years ago we flushed the hell out of it. 2 engines later it still makes the same noise but works. Annoying yes.
