Getting ready to install cams

Hey everyone, I'm getting ready to install cams on my Evo IX. Beside the tools, what else should I have handy before tackling the job? Any gaskets that need to be replaced? Special grease? etc.

Do you have a good write-up/how to? I found some on here that were really helpful. You might want to use a new valve cover gasket, and some high-temp RTV silicone gasket stuff. I think you're supposed to use that at the corners of the end cam caps or something, kinda forgot. I'd suggest using the 'zip tie your timing belt to your cam gears' method, I've done it a few times. Make sure you keep the cam caps in the correct orientation and order. Don't tighten the cam cap bolts too tight. I've broken one off in the head before not thinking it was tight enough. Get tuned pretty shortly after.

Ziptie ur belt to ur cam gears so not to loose ur timing is about the main thing i can say. unless u plan on retiming it (it's a pain in the a$$ to do if u have never done it before)

Zip-ties for the holding the timing belt to cam gears as already mentioned), gray RTV for valve cover gasket corners/bends, engine assembly lube to coat the rockers and cams, and a tiny allen wrench to bleed the lifters with.

that Mivec intake cam will be a little harder to remove than the evo8. Might as well install arp headstuds in there while you're at it, takes like 30min to do using the 1 x 1 method. Also use a good torque wrench for the headstuds.

Thanks. Should I also replace the valve cover gasket while I'm at it?

I will pick up some gray rtv and engine assembly lube at local auto zone.

As for the head studs, so far I'm good. I get around 26psi of boost and its not lifting the head. If I go with e85 in the future then I will upgrade the head studs.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Also as for the belt tensioner tool, is it the same thread as the dsm guys use? I would hate to buy one since my buddy can let me use his from a dsm.

OK, a 14mm allen socket wrench would have been the right answer here.... LOL

That intake cam cover that goes over the cam bolt was a PITA to get off

1X1 method of installing head studs is NOT recommended just so you know.
