Differences between Samco and Perrin Intake Tube
Differences between Samco and Perrin Intake Tube
Is there a big difference between the Evo Samco Intake Tube and the Perrin Intake Tube? I got a Samco intake tube that have never installed but was wondering how it compares to the Perrin Intake Tube. Any real differences on a stock frame turbo?
The MAF adapter that I have look smother than the Perrin one. The Perrin has sharp edges at the sides of the MAP adapter and the one I have is smooth. Have not tried the Intake yet. Just wondering if anyone have done any testing between them.

Neither will do any good or any harm on a the stock turbo. For bigger turbos like the black I've heard people say that you should use a metal intake tube for fear the softies will collapse.
Well there are people claiming 20 whp with the Perrin intake kit. That is a big claim for a stock turbo.
FP has their own intake tube for the new Reds and Black and they are made from Silicon (3 inch) not metal. Silicone will not absorb as much heat as metal that means they will stay cooler.
I may go with a HTA Green, BBK Full or BBK B in the summertime.

Those intake pipes won't make a difference.
An on open air filter is a different story I guess. Personally I don't think they make much of a difference in the real world but most respected tuners will show you they can help hold boost up top on dyno.
The EVO9 has been out for 4 years and people have had run them at the track with many different configurations. Most of which don't perform any better than one with an ebay turbo back exhaust.
I can tell you I ran a 116 trap with only an ebay TBE. Then I took then I took the lid off the stock airbox and removed the filter. Ran the car again and it trapped the same. Again that was with the stock turbo.
Once you move to something bigger.... I suggest you call a respected tuner and ask them what parts they recommend. As I understand it CBRD, BR, and others seem to like the Perrin unit.

Do you mean this thread?
Not sure what is so special about this setup but its been posted here. Honestly the Perrin MAF adapter (with shield) looks more restrictive (sharp edges and less smooth) than the vibrant MAF adapter.
