Sticky Gearshift (tranny?)

I have a wierd problem and I was hoping someone could shed some light on it.
I have an 03 Evo VIII GSR.

The other day I turned it on and the shifter was really stiff and hard to get into gear, the wierd thing is it was fine before this happened..I didt notice anysymptoms at all before I shut the car down for about 3 days. I have had the clutch replaced about 20k miles ago to an exceddy done by turbotrix and never had a problem till now.

Could it be the transfercase of tranny?

Opinions please..

Thanks for the tip guys.

Does it make a difference though if the car is off and the gearshifter is still really hard to engage and very notchy and not even pushing the clutch in?

Im going to try it regardless but Im thinking it could be something else?

Mayhem... you ever figure this out? I am having the same issue now. Almost like the fluid got thicker from sitting for a while. This happened to me over the winter too once... but it loosened up again over the next couple days and more driving... now its been sitting a while and its back... but now its warm out.

If you have problems getting into gear then you turn the car off and it still will not go into gear you can rule out the clutch.

Start with the easy stuff. Take off the console and inspect the linkage in the cabin. Take the battery out of the motor and pull the underhood shifter bushing off and try shifting the car. If it doesn't go in you have an issue with the linkage. If its fine you have an issue with your bushings/transmission.

I had this exact same thing happen to me a month ago after a clutch install. I took out my battery and WD40'd the hell out of the linkage and it was like a knife through butter after that. Give it a try!

Well it turned out to be the gear linkage under the hood. Replaced it and put the stock shifter back on and it is money!
