Help Needed. Somethings wrong with my car.
My car has been randomly sluggish as I drive it like the turbo/engine is not running to the full power. I have to push harder on my gas pedal when this happens and the steering wheel gets tons of vibrations running through it. I took it in to Mitsubishi and they said that the tube in the drive line is cracked and that I need t replace the whole driveline. My dad just took it into his friend and he says he doesnt think that is the problem. Does anyone know anything about this or have a clue what it wrong with my car..
Thanks

Are you building any boost when you step on the gas? Also is their any kinda of noise that doesn't seem to be right? A few weeks ago my car was running sluggish and making a weird noise plus it wasn't building any boost. After looking over my car my turbo went out. Lots of shaft play in the turbo. I have a turbo sitting at FP to be turned into a Black. But it is going to be a few weeks til I get it back. Then I have to get a re tune.
Why not get under the car and check for yourself? You could always call and ask the techs more specifically where the crack is. If there is actually a crack, it seems like it should be easy to see. I'm not sure what "a tube in the drive line" means. Steering vibration would rule out alot of things if it is connected, drive train related seems like it could possible cause this. Most things would not cause steering vibrations, turbo problems etc would not.

I have not noticed any noise while driving, and it doesnt happen at a specific time/weather just randomly. Sometimes it'll be fine for weeks then it'll happen sometimes it'll happen more than once in a day. It feels like a switch got turned off and then kicks back on in either a short or long amount of time. My dad currently has it to take it to a couple different places to look at it since I am way too busy with classes.

Is your check engine light on? Has anybody pulled codes? I had the same exact issue on my '03. I had misfire codes. Wasn't cheap to fix it either... It was irritating when it would happen on mine. Random RPM, random speeds, etc. Pulled freeze frame to confirm what conditions it would happen under. Most of the time I'd be on the freeway, & out of nowhere the engine would lose power - even if I floored the pedal in that moment, the car wouldn't go anywhere! Plus, there'd be that shake in the steering wheel you described. I'd let off the gas, then put my foot in it again & everything would be fine. The biggest PITA about the whole thing was all the shops & EVO guys I talked to couldn't give me any solid leads to the real problem. Checked all ignition components, drained the fuel tank, etc.. nothing. Finally spoke to Pete from WORKS. Apparently, on the '03-'04 EVO's, there is a TSB on the transmission input shaft & input shaft bearings & fifth gear. When the bearings would get loose enough, it would cause enough vibration of the input shaft during cruise to the point that the knock sensor on the block would pick up that vibration & think that the engine is knocking, so the computer would retard the timing which causes that loss of power & shake in the steering wheel. You'll notice that it happens under cruising speed/partial throttle. It would never do it under full accel. The fix,
rebuilt transmission. I ordered a Stage 2 trans from WORKS, had them install the updated input shaft, input shaft bearings, & 5th gear. Also with the stage 2, the tranny internals got micropolished & they shim the tolerences a little tighter than stock. I've never had that problem again!
Best of luck with your EVO!
