E85 Too Old?

Well my car has been sitting with a full tank of e85 since september. Im gonna start it up today and start tuning on the new setup. I have new 1600cc injectors in it but everything else is the same in the fuel system. Is it safe to go ahead and run that gas or should I pump out 12 gallons worth of ethanol?

Drain the tank Tyler. That would be best. Use the old e85 for your lawnmower.

I don think it would hurt, but I would change the fuel filter after a couple tankes. If you dont have one I would get and in line filter so it is easy to change. My .02

I think the E-85 stations shoot for a 90 day turnover. I'd say dump it, it's not worth the hassle.

I accidentally poured e85 in my lawnmower and when I got it going I thought wow it runs AWESOME! It only ran for about 10 mins and I haven't been able to start it back up since.

I disagree. Ethanol is less volatile than gasoline, and I doubt there is any problem with the fuel. Ethanol tends to absorb some water from the atmosphere, but water is obviously soluble in ethanol, and we're talking about far less water than a good water injection system.

I say, just drive it around and go about your business until the tank is empty. When you fill up again, then you can do your tuning or whatever else you want to throw at it.

a customer of mine let his sit for 4 months, started up and purred like a kitten, no problems, not sure how long you can go or if there's any limit.

I'm sure there's a limit, even though the fuel system is reasonably sealed you are going to get evaporation problems where the alcohol percentage will go down. But I think the big issue is your humidity in your area and alcohol's tendency to absorb water.

But then gas has it's storage length limits too and it starts to have issues, so I don't see this as a negative against e85 in any way. Diesel stores long term the easiest.

Off topic but I'm pretty sure lawn mowers don't even like E20 fuel.

I just bought a lawnmower and it said E10 was as far as you could go with it.
