would love to see this on a car with mods not much above stage 2 to see how it really improves over stock turbo with stock internals.

sorry, probably more of a subaru term. The bolt on basics and fuel system improvements so intake, intercooler piping, upgraded intercooler, turbo back exhaust, fuel pump, injectors and tune. Basically most of what you can do before getting into internals and more advanced drivetrain stuff.

I'll be surprised if it's even remotely competitive in bang for buck in any area besides spool. As much as I like HKS and have had their parts of my cars, the era of HKS turbo kits being worth their price in the US market is basically over. Between FP, Blouch/CBRD, and even Tomei, a BB stock-based $2400 turbo at that power level is just not very competitive IMO, even with all the other HKS parts to maximize its potential. I wonder what the numbers would look like on a real dyno graph as well, as that chart is just that, a created chart, not a dyno sheet. But what's new... just my $.02

we've looked into this....

consider this, make a BBK ball bearing (add say 850 bucks).. you are going to be at 2500 bucks..then it will probably surge, so we'd either A. have to redesign the wheels to alleviate that an in conjunction probably limit the power range, or B. run an anti surge cover (again add some money too it)...

Id be interested to run this turbo against our BBK Lite anyone want to send us one?

HKS products tend to be pricey. Americans are more about bang for the buck. I will patiently wait for testing and results.

The norm is that HKS use Garrett BB cartridges though I don't know if its the case this time .
If you look at the wheel diameters and trims you can see that they don't fit within the norms of Garrett GT series turbines and compressors .
The GT35 and GT37 compressors are 71.1 and 76.2mm and only made in 48/52/56 trims .

The turbine is ~ 60mm but without seeing the back of the turbocharger you can't see if its a GT30 turbine - or something nice like a TR30R turbine .
Also Garrett have a love affair with the 84 trim size on most turbines in the GT30 and larger families , BB GT37Rs and GT40Rs have come back to 78 trim so maybe times are changing at Garrett .

It will be interesting to see these HKS units tested back to back with a few of the FP and CBRD bolt ons - with the same camshafts that is .
If what the graphs show is true low to mid torque should be something else .
The theory suggests that BB turbos "idle" faster at low engine revs than bush bearing ones do and have faster transients .
Assuming that's the case then they may allow the use of slightly larger wheels and housings for more oomph without losing stock like bottom end torque/drivability .

You gotta love Mitsy for getting into twin scroll manifolds and housings early on (Evo 4) , its just that annular contact ball bearings are a lower friction alternative so used together (BB + TS) should make a good thing better .
Yeah I know the price , thing is if you can bolt on performance it is a lot easier than going inside the engine for it .

Time will tell with this dryer when a few get out in circulation .

Cheers , Adrian in Oz .

Wow very interesting stuff. Definitely would like to see comparison tests between this and the similar BBK/FP turbos. Wish I had the money, I'd offer my car as a test mule.
