head studs necessary if.....

My sig lists my mods. I have the engine half apart to do the timing belt. Not much farther to do headstuds.
Do I need them? What would be the advantage? I plan to upgrade to a BBK turbo, but don't know when. Could be a year or so.
I'm just trying to weigh out pros and cons. I hate pulling heads off of cars. I like to leave them sealed up from the factory cause they never seem the same once you open them up.

Opinions? Experiences? Thanks for reading, guys.

I'd do just cuz it will save you some work later on since you already have it apart.

I think it's good insurance since you'll eventually be running higher boost with the BBK. Also, you have it apart anyway.

kinda what i was thinking. once i get the exhaust mani/turbo off, it's not that much harder to pull the head.
i'm just trying to research what my limits are on the stock head bolts as opposed to what i can do with studs.

I would do it for extra reassurance the Guy above meant to say you can do the one by one method where you remove a OEM stud then put an arp or what ever and move to the next

but, according to your sig, you have head studs. LOL. i'll never run more than 30psi on any turbo i have.. so i don't really need to upgrade?
i'd have to imagine my stock IX turbo, or even the BBK, will be much efficient at anything over 30psi.

ooooooooh. i'd never do that. too much of a chance that the head gasket will leak or the head will warp. who in hell is crazy enough to do that? LOL
it's actually kinda funny 'cause we joked around like that once. "too bad we can't...."

ahahahah

Way too many thread on this topic...People need to realize that boost doesnt lift a head but rather detonation. If you want to throw in headstuds then go for it, but if it were me id leave it be.

When I speak of high boost pressure I think in terms of detonation, not so much power. Mostly because pressure is a relative term to the turbo size and means very little to how much power is made as opposed to how much heat/detonation occurs.
For this reason we've always chose to run larger turbos @ lower psi to make power than smaller turbos with high psi.
I also have a pet peeve when someone asks "how many psi?" Instead of "how much power?". But I'm getting off track here. LOL

None of my tunes have knock/detonation/etc. So that's not an issue with me.

I used to make 350ish whp on my hondas all day long with 100% stock engines. I never had a head lift. Maybe because I was only running 13-15psi.

Now that I'm in the 25-30 range, I keep being told I need headstuds. My pump gas tune should peak in the 25psi range (as it is now) and 50/50 meth at ??psi. If this is okay on the stock engine, then I'm down. I'm ALL about keeping stuff OEM.
That's why I <3 my iron block!

If the heads off, change them. I only had/saw problems on the Evo VIII's. My own included. Good tuners involved there too. Have never saw problems on IX's that were not a tuning related issue. Sorry, in a hurry...

Sounds good to me. Like I said: I don't like cracking motors open anyway. I'm too lazy. :-)

This would be my exact response also. Good insurance. You are in there anyway. Don't wait to lift the head due to boost and blow the gasket out...
