Interesting..

Warm makes sense to drain easier and the idea that loose particles staying up float to drain out. But at the same time leaving the car for a long time, gives enough time to have all the oil from the top of the head drain down so that you remove as much oil as possible.

I just do it after it sits for a little bit and still warm but not hot enough to burn me.

Something to think about...

Aren't our oil filter rated to something around 5k miles? So even though you use some high end synthetic oil that's good for 10-15k miles. Whats the point if the oil filter cant handle it? I just change my oil around 3,000 miles. Sometimes a little over if I dont have time but generally in the 3k mark.

Exactly! this is why some weirds leave in the long-life oil and just swap on a new filter and top off the oil level.

I do it whe nits hot, after being burned a few times Im pretty good at doing it wihtout getting oil all over myself.

Besides doing it when it hot gives you that motivation to do it precise so as to not need to go to the ER for 3rd deg bruns lol.

I was at a garage and they had oil dry everywhere on the floor. I asked what had happened? The answer was that they had decided to drain the oil out of a Mack Truck. They used a cut-off 55 gallon oil drum to catch the oil. The drum, cut off to knee height had overflowed and covered the floor with oil.

Yeah, trucks hold a lot of oil.
