GM 3 port/boost pill question

A couple of days ago I decided to start over on my evo build for a more stealthy power setup. The car was down for a couple of weeks and I finally got it up and running yesterday, now as I was gunning it on the freeway I noticed that my boost gauge wouldnt read lower than 25 psi. I lowered the MBC as much as I could and still nothing less than 25 psi. Now ive been running on an MBC for some time and I noticed when I did an evo IX turbo upgrade my factory boost solenoid went missing car was running fine tho and I was tuned on the MBC. Now one of my questions is would I be able to run the car fine with no factory boost solenoid if I remove the MBC (its a dejon tool btw) Im running on a stock 8 turbo now with a stock WGA. My plan now is to get a GM3port boost solenoid remove the MBC and I was thinking on putting my car on the boost pill. Can you guys fill me benefits and if I would benefit from it? Thanks in advance guys

Are you asking if you can drive your car without boost control until you get a GM BCS setup ? NO

GM BCS vs MBC - MBC much easier to setup...GM BCS better at holding boost up top and controlling boost curve. That said, don't expect radical hp gains. Using the GM BCS also allows you to retain ECU controlled boost and safety features - max boost.

The MBC seems to fail on smaller turbo's that don't hold boost well. But larger turbos work very well with an MBC.

Their more tuning capabilities. Like you can tune boost for each gear. I think you can also have wired up to do like a fail safe mode if anything were to go wrong.

I am sorry, but you are making a serious mistake.

(1) The GM BCS route does not use / need a BCS pill...

(2) The stock setup uses pills and there are posts describing how to modify the pills to use the stock BCS and control higher boost values...

If you add pills to the vacuum lines going to the GM BCS, your WGDC values are going to be odd....but good luck

Honestly, for most people the MBC is hard to beat....cheap....easy to adjust...and it works...

I am playing with my tune right now after swapping turbos and am using an MBC....works great and 10x easier than messing with wgdc, etc. That said, once I am done with the tune, I will put the BCS back on (using load data from the MBC pulls)....but the only reason I am going to put the GM BCS back on later is because in Ca. MBCs are illegal and easy to spot and I already have the GM BCS wired. Otherwise I would just use the Hallman MBC.

well I talked to my tuner and he said a pill would not be necesary if i went with the 3port. now ive always liked my MBC but since I went back to stock 8 turbo I cant find a way to lower the boost any less than 25-26 psi and thats only cause it starts to back fire and i let go of the throttle im sure it would spike up higher. now like i stated before a long time ago when i upgraded to my evo 9 turbo my stock boost solenoid went missing. i asked the guy that installed it and he said he didnt touch that BUT since my car was tuned and running ok i left it at that. And now that i cant lower the boost my assumtion is i need that solenoid so i planned to replace it with a 3port or I have a bad boost leak somewhere. im working on that now. I didnt say I was or wasnt going to do something specific i just started this thread to get a little more guidence on which rout i should take. thanks for the help so far tho guys i really appreciate it.

Have you verified your MBC is installed correctly and your WGA is working ? If you are really concerned and cannot figure this out, then just connect the vacuum line coming off the turbo directly to the wga. Then get to your mechanic....

sounds like your wastegate is too tight and the "backfiring" is possibly fuel cut...

Adjust the wastegate arm to be a little more loose 1-2 turns and see what your minimum boost is. No pill would mean less boost, given nothing else changed. It restricts the amount of boost "signal" that the wastegate sees. So removing it means the wastegate sees more boost and would open sooner, causing less boost at the intake manifold.
