Good 500whp single plate Clutch
its not that NOT buying a HD clutch is wrong however, if you blow out a single clutch or get lockout for some reason and you need to buy another clutch, what the heck is the difference from just buying the right clutch the first time.
Also,
I have yet to drive a car with a single clutch kit that has the pedal feel of the Exedy. hell, my act had a much stiffer pedal feeling to it versus the twin HD.
I am all about saving money, I just spend the money on parts that are important.

Because some people know how to actually use a clutch and don't kill them so fast. Doing what you are saying, "get the right clutch", is correct, but you don't need some heavy duty *** clutch. Overkill clutch=breaking stuff behind the clutch.
And exedy twin clutches aren't the fastest with shifting...

So pushing a single is safer than running a twin disc? I know that if i could have had a better clutch that held more power and was more of a stock pedal pressure, hell, that act would have been gone a long time ago.
not sure how you feel a twin disc is "overkill"
I could see a tilton triple carbon being overkill for his setup
there is nothing wrong with having a strong clutch with stock like pedal pressure - the main issue with the hd is the noise on decel - which is certainly liveable.
So when i see people running great times with a hd clutch, I will assume that their times would be faster with a different style clutch.....
anyways, carry on

I've owned an exedy twin sd and currently have a twin hd. The sd made no noise, but the hd barks like a seal. The sd is probably your best bet for daily drivability and the clutch feel is very similar to stock. And if you use it according to your intentions listed in your first post, I'd say you can get well over 20k miles out of it no problem
I had an ACT single plate clutch the moment the stocker was cooked. I went all the way up to a little over 500whp with no issues. As a matter of fact when it was time to swap the motor out I put in another disk and brearing.... pressure plate was fine. You will be fine with a sinlge disk ACT. Did several high rpm launches no lock out issues ever!
Just my $.02
I too have the ACT HDSS and have never had lockout issues. Two weekends ago I was at the track (road race) shifting at 7800, never having a problem. The clutch now has 104k miles on it..

i too have an act hdss for the past 15k miles and i never had a problem with it and i'm running a full race 35r set up. i can shift at 8k with no problems. I drive the car 100 miles a day and auto cross it but i never launch my car.
even my stock clutch lasted 80k miles on my gt30r setup.

When you start getting up into those power levels you really have to start looking into multi plate clutches. I am at 500/500 and I am hoping that my Exedy Twin HD holds out, I may be having to upgrade to a Triple soon...
The twin makes very little noise if installed and broken in correctly. Don't read into all you hear about them being noisy as hell. I am on my 2nd and they have both been quiet.

I would also like to add that as told to me by one of the tranny builders we all know; Evo's don't like high-pressure single plate clutches at high rpm. Something to keep in mind.
My HDSS grabs just fine with about 10k miles on it so far as well. I can shift at 7500rpms on my FP Red setup, and have never had it lockout at all. I daily the car as well, and it's very close to stock feeling just driving around.
what could be useful is if people stated with their act clutch setups, the power they are making and who installed it!!!!!!
from reading around it seems some people install it wrong ... always see people say have someone instally it correctly.. and i think the lock out problems would be associated with how much torque you are putting out
