Piston Play...

was just wondering, on a fully built block..pistons rods crank and all

when the pistons are installed is it ok for them to shift left and right or up and down?

with the block sitting on the stand i can take two fingers and move the piston all around....

i have never had a block with after market pistons in it so i have never seen this.

thanks for all help

Yes there are tolerances involved.

1) Aluminum Pistons with Steel Rings
2) Steel Liners

Expansion rate is different for each and therefore tolerances are required.

If a reputable engine shop built the motor, they can give you those tolerances.
