I bought about 6 filters from Mitsu when I bought my car in 03. Everyone of them started threading on unusually hard for the first thread or two. I was never sure if it was the stud in the car or the threads in the filters.

After I used them up I started using the Mobil 1 110's and have had no issues with thread engagement or otherwise.

I know my local Autozones reference book has what seems to be a misprint in it regarding these filters. It lists the 08 filter for the evo and 110 for the lancer in 03 but for every other year it is vice versa. The evo should get the higher capacity 110.

I've used M1-108 filters since my first oil change. My car now has 38k miles on it, oil changed every 2500 miles. My car runs very strong, still holds very high compression, and uses no oil. It's worked for me so far, I see no reason to change....

filter

Hey guys just want to put in my input on this, since it was restarted.

I've been using Mobile 1 filters # M104 since I got my evo late 03, it's the same size as the OEM, but according to the books in the auto stores it gives you a smaller size ones.

The M104 is for the Mits SUV (I think) but back when I was looking to see what I could you use someone mentioned about that. So when I got one and compare it to the OEM one...similar size and it has a good if not better design in filtration as the OEM.

Hope this helps.

I use the M1-104 Also. Its very close to the same size as stock. I looked at the 108 and 110 at Autozone. They looked much smaller in diameter than the factory filter, but seemed to be much longer than the factory filter. I am not sure of the filtration differences between the three of them, though. I just know that I wanted the 104 because the length of the 108 and 110 worries me. I read a thread on here a long time ago about a guy that bottomed out his car, almost ripping off the oil filter he had on that was longer than stock. That worries me enough to buy a good quality oil filter that is the same length as stock, no matter what the parts catalogs say.

System 1

I would talk to a good mechanic in your area, do a web search, or talk to guys that race the EVO.....My engine builder in California setup the system, so I don't know where he bought it from.....Most of the serious race cars had non factory setups (like System 1)....

From the web -- "There is a new oil filter called System 1 that provides a claimed 5 micron reusable stainless mesh filter element in a conventional spin-on canister. Gene Berg has tested the filter and claims that it has less pressure loss than a Fram HP-1. The System 1 also has a bypass built into the filter and it will fit the Pint style oil pump with no modifications. The 5 micron filter mesh should provide superior engine protection to a conventional filter and has the advantage that it is easily inspected for engine particles."

K&N makes oil filters also! I've used ever since they introduced their oilfilter product line, plus a rare earth filter magnet. Best set-up. I've seen pics of cutting filter with magnet so i did it after last oil change out of curiosity and sure enough there was metal where the magnet was. Though it was not significant as it shoulden't be unless your engine is falling apart but still, better than having it circulating in your engine.

Rare earth magnet

Where do you get the rare earth magnet for the filter?? I'd really like to do this also. Makes a lot of sense to me, especially as the stock oil pan plug has a magnet...this has to be a good thing.

I really can't remember. I think it was summit racing. There kinda expensive but very high quality. Its curved to the filter and covers over half the diameter of the filter. It takes two hands to remove sometimes (from under car with jack stands). Highly recommend.
