anyone seen this, 11.5 turbine housing, any thoughts on performance gains/losses?

Someone posted this before.....IIRC it was just a worked over 10.5?

 

So why not just say ported 10.5? Or does it just sound better to say you have a 11.5 hotside?

Probably much like moving from the 9.8 to the 10.5, not really noticeable.

 

The 9.8/10.5cm^2 refers to the area ratio (or a/r) of the turbine housing, so in order for the size to increase to say an 11.8cm^2 that means the area ratio would physically have to change. Porting alone won't raise the a/r, it would have to be re-cast. Do a quick search on area ratio to see what I mean.

 

By contrast to your opinion, I have concluded that porting could, in fact, under certain circumstances alter turbine housing A/R. Area can be altered, and radial distance between shaft axial center and the scroll's cross sectional centerline can be altered as well.

I'm unsure how they have calculated it but i doubt it truly is 11.5.

 

You can alter it by doing that for sure, by making it worse.

By the numbers on the housing its a new 10.5. The funny thing is it has all the mitsu numbers still on it.

 

It could to some degree, but not in large enough amounts. The biggest problem would be the thickness of the casting after you port it to achieve any major a/r changes as these turbine housings aren't especially thick to begin with in some spots. You would risk cracking the housing if the walls became too thin.

Edit* I also checked that link that was posted, it states the housing is for a TD06 wheel so the only assumption I can make would be that it's machined larger to fit the TD06 wheel and in which case the standard stock Evo TD05HR wheel wouldn't fit right.
