Bushur Exhaust pipe Installed - Questions

Hi,

First, got a Bushur exhaust from MachV. I reviewed it here:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...896#post565896

I looked at the pix on the thread and on the MachV site again, and it looks like I have an axle-back or a newly designed muffler delete?

Check out the pix:

It's not just the pipe, but has a resonator like can, or it is an actual muffler? I apologize for my ignorance here, just curious. The next post has a pic from the rear of the interior of the piping.

Anyway, my actual question is that I expected my boost to decrease, but in my initial test drive I seemed to hold and even peak boost in 2nd and 3rd gear a little higher. Weather has been similar and boost readings were 17.5-18.5 psi in 2nd gear, tapering to ~16.5 in upper rpm before. With pipe, I got almost 20 psi and it only tapered slightly uptop. This is cool, but any idea why it would be different? I'll go for more testing once the contractor finishes.

Thoughts?

Axle back from MachV:

Well looking at the pics together, it seems I have an axle-back. They only charged me for a muffler delete pipe though.

Oh well, I imagine perf is very close and muffler delete pipe would weight a little less. Even the axle-back is significantly lighter than stock. This would also explain why it's so quiet, heh.

Thoughts? My plan is to keep what they sent me. Also, any ideas on the boost? Did the boost rise or increase because it was an axle-back vs a straight pipe?

Thanks,

Hi,

I went for another drive and did a few GTECH 0-60 runs (GTECH Pro).

I had done a some GTECH runs a few months ago and decided to lay off since I was burning my clutch somtimes.

I decided to do a few with no hard launches. I always run at a particular spot and do several runs. First try with new pipe I got 5.13 s by letting off clutch normally and flooring it. Car really revs much quicker. I decided to do a slightly more aggressive launch, but wussed out and bogged real bad for the 2nd run (5.16 s).

It's raining here, so I figured I would try one real launch. Held revs at ~4000 rpm, then floored it and quickly lifted on clutch. I got some nice tire spin and stayed in it, shifted to 2nd at 7000, then shifted again at redline and checked GTECH: 4.74 s. Not bad. For comparison, back in the warmer summer months with no ign wires but all the other mods besides pipe, I would get mid to low 5 seconds 0-60. Now I realize time to speed is a flawed measurement, but I'm really just babbling all of this to bump the post and hopefully get some thoughts on the boost.

I lowered my MBC slightly, and now I read 19 psi or so in almost all gears. I had thought that the pipe would lower my boost. Any ideas on why boost is higher and holding better? I would guess it holds better since there is less backpressure.

Oh well, any input is appreciated.

I thought when you install a new exhaust to make sure you unplug the battery to make the ECU go into reset mode. Could someone correct me on this?

Edit: This is in regards to your loss in Boost PSI.

Hi, sorry if I was unclear, I experience MORE boost after installing the pipe. Others who have the muffler delete pipe (Noize), experienced a loss of 1 or 2 psi.

Hmmm, now that I think about it, I think Noize does not have an MBC. I have one, but didn't adjust it after installing the pipe. Perhaps the different plumbing (no FBC) is more efficient?

I actually meant to reset the ecu, but more to clear the fuel mapping out. I don't think it would change my boost since I have a mechanical setup.

Thanks for the input, and reminding me to reset the ecu, heh. Car is running so well right now, I don't want to though.

One more observation about the exhaust, I did a roll-on WOT pass in 1st with the windows down and it sounded like a jet taking off. Well it wasn't nearly that loud, but it sounded cool. I didn't really notice an "exhaust" sound like with Greddy on my Integra GSR or the Forge Milltek on my A4.

Take care,

FB

Berkel, good review post. Can you post a side-on pic of the exhaust tip so we can see how it clears the Bumper. I am thinking of getting one of these items but my bumper is 4.5cm shorter. Do you think it would stick out too much??

p.s. How do you like the build quality?
thanks in advance.

Hi,

Check this thread:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...896#post565896

There are other pics installed. Bushur actually modified the design since the original one he sent was a tad too long. Now it's a bit shorter and a good fit. There was another member with an EVOVii (which I think you have?) and he seemed to think it would work. You can check with him. Anyway, I am very impressed with how Bushur filled the demand for this product, and also accepted feedback to make it even better. Build quality, welds, are very good.

Take care,

Yes, berkel, that's an axle-back exhaust you have, not a muffler-delete pipe.

We do make a mistake now and then. Sorry! I've sent you a PM with some more about this topic.
