Thats what I thought about GL-5 in tranny, didn't have my manual handy, figured maybe they changed new trans to allow GL-5. Anyway, I thought Al said he was running shell something in his trans and I was curious as to exactly what it is.

What you really want to know if the GL4 in the transmission is a minimum specification or not. Usually if GL4 is given, it's ok to use GL5 except in the case of older cars that have GL5 incompatible brass parts, usually on the synchronizers.
Tal to a Mitsubishi tech and find out if the there is brass that is incompatibel with the added sulphur content of GL5. Sulphur is a high pressure additive and more of it is necessary in hypoid gears. Therefore, GL5 is usually uneccessary in gear boxes. However, if you have two different gear oils around, you are bound to the the wrong on in somewhere eventually (Murphy's law).
Shell has a gearbox lubricant that works with old brass style synchronizers which is Shell Dentax. I have used Spirax Synthetic in most of my vehicles in both gearboxes and differentials and like the product. Dentax used to be recommended for racing by Alfa Romeo, even in gearboxes that were spec'd for Spirax as it gave quicker and more positive shifts. This has since been superceded by the fact that special racing gear oils are now available, eg Redline.
Please note that I don't have any specific expereince with the Evo.
