Need some advice for my build.

Ok I have a 06 evo 9 mr. First thing is I need advice on my intercooler and pipes. My shop doesnt want to use ets pipes because there steel and they want to use aluminum. Im running a 6262 and it came with 2.5" pipes. They want to go with 3". They also want me to ditch the 3" thick AMS intercooler and go with a 4". Is this necessary for reaching my goal of breaking the 700hp mark? Second the shop isnt positive if they should O ring the block. I read somewhere that stickly modifieds car isnt but I want others thoughts. Then lastly should I go with a aftermarket throttle body or should I just get it ported? Thanks alot I just want this build to go correctly and need some advice from people who have gone through this already

It will definitely get you to the 700hp mark. Aluminum pipes would be better than steel only because its lighter. The 2.5 vs 3 inch intercooler pipe has been tested, 2.5 for quicker spool and 3" for a little more top end. The 4" intercooler(IC) would work more efficiently than the 3" IC, I recommend BR racing intercooler tested and proven. If you have the stock intake manifold ported with a ported TB it will work just fine, after market IM and TB will give you more added pwr. The O ring debate, all I'm going to say is that it wouldn't hurt.

Well I think since im going from a 30r to a 6262 ill stick with the 2.5" to get a little better spool. I just dont understand why ets wouldnt offer aluminum. Only thing I can think of is that steel is stronger. Anyway thanks for the info. Any more added info would be great

Doesn't sound like the best shop right off the bat, but....Your pipes will be fine, no reason to go 3 inch aluminum when you have great 2.5 ETS pipes now. Not a bad suggestion on the IC, I'd do a Buschur like the other guy said.

Nothing wrong with stainless steal pipes. Buschur and us both use stainless steel pipes.

A few reasons why we use stainless

1.) Durability
2.) Clamp Force - You can tighten the clamp as tight as possible and won't hurt the piping. With aluminum if you tighten the clamp too tight the pipe is toast. It's almost impossible to get a perfect seal once the pipe is out of round, so be-careful if you go with aluminum!
3.) It's not price, that's for sure. Stainless Steel costs much more then aluminum. It's also a bunch more wear and tear on the blades we use, sanding belts, etc. We do it because of the benefits.

If you need to go bigger on the intercooler we have a 4.0" on the shelf that we could ship out w/ 3.0" inlet and outlets and provide a coupler for the hot side from 2.5" to 3.0" and 3.0" to 3.0" on the cold side for that 3.0" upper intercooler piping.

Do you plan on running a magnus intake manifold or stock? We have options for both.

Thanks!

Michael

Thanks for the reasoning behind using stainless steel. Anyway I think ill be fine using the 2.5'' intercooler pipes I already have from you guys and just upgrading the intercooler. Pm me the price shipped and the couplers ill need. I also need a intake for your 6262 because im converting to SD so include a price for that too. Thanks

Everything Mike said is right on par, this is why every car we have has ETS complete piping/intercoolers on them.

10 to 12 pounds weight difference is not enough to really worry about in my book. I agree with Micheal about clamp force and durable. You will not get the life nor the clamp force out of the Alum. Whos doing the build? If you dont mind me asking?

i can actually show you a pic where we had a customer car with ETS piping have IM, valve cover, and cylinder head saved during a wreck due to the SS piping lol
