Exedy Twin HD Pops out of Reverse

OK this is starting to **** me off. I have about 2,500 miles on the clutch. It's tough getting it into reverse. To me it just feels like it's only going into gear half way. Like it's not seated/meshed properly??? I adjusted the clutch pedal which seemed to help a little bit, but now and then I put it in reverse, I start to back up and it slips into neutral. I sometimes have to hold it there so it doesn't pop out and I don't want to have to do that as It's probably not good for it. Anyone else have this problem? When searching I found nothing about this clutch popping out of gear. This is on the MR 6spd tranny.

Also I launched it 6 times with the 2 step as I'm sure someone will ask, but this has been going on for over a month. I only started launching a week ago.

I too am having difficulty getting my MR into reverse. I have to almost JAM it in. Although it stays in gear once it's in. I've only had the clutch for 4 days now so I am hoping this gets better. Is this normal?

How high off the ground does the clutch engage? If its dragging it can make it very difficult to get in gear.

As far as popping out of gear, I dont think thats a clutch issue. Something is worn inside the tranny, though Id defer to the experts on this one.

Sounds like more of a trans issue than clutch.

I'm having the same issue with my MR. I felt it the same day my clutch was installed. I tried adjusting the pedal but it's still there.
Is it an installation problem? Clutch is a ACT HDSS W/ streetlite flywheel.

Is this issue something that will go away/get better after the break-in period? Or do I need to do a clutch adjustment to help it get into gear easier?

On a related note, is it normal to hear the howling when downshifting or is this also a break in concern?

Sounds like a clutch adjustment. I had my Exedy HD lock me out of 5th 6th and could not even get to reverse. full adjustment of the clutch and i was able to get them all back.

Put your car in 3rd gear and look to see if it is centered. The problem i had with mine was that my 3rd gear was almost where my 5th gear was, and to get into my 5th i needed to pick up the little leaver as if i was going into reverse.... if that is the case for you as well then its an adjustment

ps the howling is normal.... but thats because your not RPM matching... your just putting it in gear and letting off the clutch... You really should be RPM matching...

Yea, i kind of figured so. I usually rev match but now I just have to be more aware of it or at least more accurate.

BTW, in your opinion is the clutch adjustment a pretty straight forward procedure? I don't need to drain/bleed the clutch do I? I'm sure there's a FAQ on it so I'll go find that. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like it's dragging or the clutch pedal needs adjusting.

It should just be a cable adjustment. There is also a bracket is mounted on the transmission i believe that could have shifted... you would be supprised how a 1/16 or 1/8 of an inch makes a difference. I wish i could be more descriptive but i didnt wrench on my car when the clutch was installed or adjusted. But from talking to the guys who did this is what they did to fix my issue.

The clutch adjustment is done at the pedal (threaded rod) on the master cylinder.

I adjusted the pedal over a month ago (before anyone replied to this) and it helped. It used to engage or disengage (whatever the proper term is) about 2 inches off the floor. I adjusted the pedal to about 1 and 1/2 inch off the floor. The positive is that when I go to downshift it comes out of gear when I push the clutch in (I used to have to pull it out of gear). The negative is that it still doesn't stay in reverse. I have to hold the gear stick in reverse in order to proceed. It's annoying after spending all of that money. I never had this problem before having this clutch installed so I can't see this being a tranny problem. That makes no sense to me.

If you are getting the tranny fully into reverse and it pops back out, it sounds like a spur gear.

If its just difficult to shift into gear your clutch isn't disengaging all the way. You may need to raise your pedal a little higher or looks for a pedal height spec from exedy
