Best Intake Manifold!?
Best Intake Manifold!?
If there even is such a thing.. Probably going to be looking at an aftermarket intake manifold by this fall/winter and probably doing a 75mm throttle body at the same time but I have no idea what to look for in an intake manifold.
I know the more popular brands like Magnus, JMF, or just porting the stock one but what would be better for a bigger turbo setup like mine? I'm running a 35R on 2.0L motor shifting at 9k rpms. Obviously I'll need something that will perform uptop but I don't want to lose a lot of midrange power. Are there certain things I should be looking for when I go to buy one or is there a certain manifold out there that just stomps the competition? Figure this would be a nice little discussion at the least to see what everyone thinks since I don't see a lot of talk about aftermarket intake manifold options on here and I've yet to find any dyno graphs showing gains of one manifold over the other.. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right spots lol.

this thread will end up just like the tubular exhaust manifold for stock frame thread pick one and be happy with it and move on all will produce better numbers i know the magnus v5 is a beast but then again some of us like myself want to keep the engine bay as stocking looking as possible to not scare off competition a ported stocker is good as well. take ppi extreme version or even maps rev3 are winners
I know one of the car mags did a buyer's guide or comparison test of a few manifolds a while back. It showed prices, comparisons of where power was gained or lost versus each tested manifold. Unfortunately I don't remember which magazine it was or how long ago it was. I do know it was within the last couple years or so. It didn't include all options but it was good information. Something to search for though.
Depending on your setup though, it may be more beneficial to upgrade the turbo even bigger if you're just looking for more power. Seems like the manifold upgrades are mainly there to squeeze out everything left in the setup or for the bling factor. I guess the cost doesn't appeal to me as much unless its for a strictly raced high rpm setup vs just going with a bigger turbo. That's my point of view mainly because I'm on a 35R reving to just under 9k as well but my turbo has the "small" (.63A/R) exhaust housing.

Well it's not like getting an aftermarket manifold is going to scare ne1 off lol.. I think my turbo and cam lope does most of that, but locally most people in the car thing know who I am and what's done to my car so it's not like I'll be fooling anyone lol!
I think an aftermarket manifold just makes everything look a little cleaner. I'm not real fond of the way the engine bay looks from the factory.. just not very appealing to the eyes lol.
Well I looked at the Magnus and those are pretty appealing to the eyes and to my wallet. Does anyone know what average power gains from one of those are?

LOL, funny I found this thread cause I just put a AMS IM on my car today. Did a couple dyno pulls/tuning we put down 555awhp with my 35R setup rev'ing to 8k. It was bad before on stock IM power would start falling off around 7.5k not its smooth all the way up.
with all the intake manifold testing that has gone on over the years. its best to figure out what hp/trq your after and what turbo your going to use. once you know this then you can pick the proper manifold your your needs. just because one works well here does not mean it will work well there. follow?
also motor size ''displacement'' plays a role. 2.0L 2.1L 2.2L 2.3L

I have had awesome results with the Magnus V5..of course i am not on a stock turbo and 2.0 so that may be a factor, but as for making nice top end power I would either go with the Magnus or the AMS F1-I...Reason i picked the Magnus was availability.
