Nice week! NOT

So last week I found out about my ACD pump being empty of liquid for how much time I dont know...I knew I had some problems with the ACD because of the 3 lights always being ON (bought the car about a month ago and the guy told be he had problem with the ACD but didnt seem to have a clue...or didnt want to tell me.) I had no clue what the problems was and finaly found out about the bottle being empty...

So I put ATF oil, press the gaz pedal and thank god the pump took the liquid down its veins. Adrenaline rush. I never thought it would start ever again thinking the thing was fried. I filled the bottle to MAX after 2-3 pumps and drive about 25km, look at the bottle : empty again. WTF, LEAK! ... Put more oil, drive a bit... Bottle almost empty .. So 2 pints later, I decide to remove the wheel and the plastic protectors and look at the pump.

With the wheel removed, I find green grease on the plastics.... Anyone can tell me what part I also have to change now that theres some other thing leaking?. .. .(pic)

So then I find the pump and half of it had oil on it. As you can see on the picture, even the plastic underneath was soaked at the bottom. Only the back of the pump had oil on it, the front was clean (the side with the big black bubble of death).

As you can see, theres that nice green grease all around the tire area, like a rainbow of hapiness.

After washing the pump and fill it back to the MAX I wnet for a couple of rides and almost lost next to nothing... no leak anywhere could be seen...So I leave the car and go to bed. Nex morning I go see the oil level.. now its down about 1 inch UNDER the LOW mark... wft..it was back to MAX when I left it the night before! No leak anywhere, at least from what I can see, I'll have to remove the wheel again and the protectors and take a close look at the pump again but I dont see much leak looking from the top of it..

QUESTIONS:

1- Any idea whats happening with my pump? It IS leaking somewhere right from the pump itself because of all the oil that was on it and quite a lot on the plastics right underneath...

2- Green Stuff.. what part must be changed... CV ?

I wish I knew the history of this poor car Ive learned so muc in the last weeks reading everything I could about how to maintain this car, now I feel a bit like an idiot not looking at these things first! The garages here in Canada dont know jack about these cars so I must learn and do everything by myself.(almost)

check all the CV boots to make sure they aren't busted open, that looks like thick grease and that is the only thing i can thing of that would have that much in them in the wheel well and fling it around. to fill the ACD it must be bled. to my knowledge you can't just pour it in like power steering fluid and let the pump take it down.

not sure where you are located but any speed shop that deals with evo should be able to bleed the ACD for you, or take it to the dealer and have it checked out.

you can also bleed it yourself... https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...eding-acd.html

ATF can fluctuate a ton due to temp. search some more you will find your car is normal.

Thanks for the replies guys, I am supposed to bleed the ACD next week-end, I read alot on the subject and just couldnt find why its losing oil but perhaps bleeding the line might do the trick. We'll see...

Also, I'll check the axle seal in the meantime, gonna be alot easier to do these things once I can get the car jacked up.

I appreciate the help, stay tuned for more infos soon.

PS: what so expensive about the acd pump? I found 2 used pump so far for 250$...is the labor a pain the butt? How much time is required to change it? Can I do it myself or you need special equipments? ...I know some stuff is HARD as hell like changing the clutch (my brother just did his and wanted to die many times while doing it... ) but I dont see much problem changing the acd... unless im wrong ?! 2500$ is QUITE alot of money ...knowing you can find a used one in good shape for 250!

you could probably rebuild it, or re-grease and replace the boot if the joint isn't fried. the other option is to just replace the halfshaft with a new or used part. should be able to find a used on on here, or a new one at any parts store or mitsubishiparts.com.

they have boots for $40 and the whole shaft for just under $500

^ this

Inspect the CV joint boot, it should be ripped open pretty good.

With the amount of grease spray I see in that pic you might have a fried joint, but if money is tight you could try re-packing grease with a new boot first since its much cheaper. Good luck!!
