Oil light comes on low rev

I got a IX MR with no special mods, I recently got the oil light coming on when the engine revs low.
The engine idle is at 1000 but sometimes drops to 600 and go up to 1000 again, once it dropped to 400 and the oil light came on and then off when back to 1000.
Always when I launch the car from idle and the engine revving low around 400 the oil light come on but if I rev higher and launch the light wont show.
I don't have a pressure gauge but i checked the oil pressure at idle at the garage and it was around 15 psi, they told me that it is normal and above threshold.
They also told me that it is normal to have the oil light on when the engine revs that low.
I used to have other Evo and never faced this with same driving conditions and engine low revs.

Anyone facing such issue and what could be causing this?

Many Thanks.

change your oil pressure sensor on the back of the block.. Not the knock sensor..

Check the oil pressure connection at the sensor it might have corrosion build up. Clean it up and put some electrical grease on it. Give that a shot

Same car, same issue. I believe that the reading is accurate, it is low pressure as the rpm's are so low for that instant.

+1

My car does that too when the rpms drop to about 400. The low rpm accounts for the low oil pressure which just happens to be low enough to trigger the light. Nothings wrong with your car

This seems to be really a low oil pressure at low rpms however i wonder why this doesn't happen with other evos i drive.

Anyway i'm going to check the oil pressure sensor and connection, hopefully it helps.

We can datalog oil pressure on our car and it is amazing how low the oil pressure can go on a perfectly fine car. I wouldn't worry about it that much as long as it isn't happening at roughly 800rpm or higher.

my evo ix se oil light goes off

I've owned my Evo IX SE for a year now and I haven't done anything to it but when I bought it with 14,400k on the original engine it already had a new intake - the weapon r intake or WR. My oil light started coming on during low revs after I'd push in the clutch and come out of gear (usually at stop signs or red lights). I see some people saying their cars meter shows 400 RPM's which quite low. Mine use to do that but lately it's been showing 800 - 1000 RPM and the oil light is pretty much constantly going off unless I step on the gas. I did some research on the web when I first noticed the oil light going off and couldn't find much. So I took it into Mitsubishi twice.. the dealer I bought the car from and a shop with a very good reputation. They tried to tell me it was because of the intake that the car would rev too low. Although NOW my oil light goes off almost all the time during idle. I've been cleaning my air filter properly, car has oil blah blah blah.. and the problem seems to be getting worse. I've put up with this for about 8 months or slightly longer now and I'm starting to get pissed off. I took a video of it that I'm going to be posting on youtube soon. I also noticed today that when I turned on my air conditioner to max the oil light would register more than when it was turned off. My car isn't tuned and I've always considered that might be a possibility but it seems like even other Evo's that are tuned are having the same issue? So far.. I've only heard this about Evo 9's not Evo 8's or Evo 10's. The car currently has 24k on the original engine FYI. Anyway I'm highly considering calling Mitsu to complain before my "bumper to bumper" warranty runs out... If anyone has anymore thoughts towards the cause of this problem or actually know something about it please reply to this post???

I posted initially that the oil light is coming on on 400 RPM but later I noticed that it comes on even on 800 - 1000 which could be similar to your case. Note that the car runs great with no other issues.
Adding to this I noticed that the oil light comes on only when the car has been driven for a while and the oil is hot. I was advised to change oil filter and try 10W 60 oil which should be thicker when hot than the 20W 50 which I’m using now. Anyway I will try this and will also check the sensor. Please let us know also what you reach in this. thanks.

I have the same issue, and Ive been told that it could be the results of a blown engine... I'm still looking into it but I was told its because of the oil escaping from the rod bearings

We need a specialist to come into this thread and clarify this for us...

I would recommend changing the oil pressure switch and checking the connector for corrosion.

Threshold for light to come on is very low, a couple of Lbs.

Yeah, there is a long history of IX's with bad oil sensors. If you are still running the factory sensor and see the oil light, replace the sensor.
