TSB for 5th gear grind ?
TSB for 5th gear grind ?
I swore i read somewhere that there is a TSB for this and the parts that need to be replaced .. but i call my mitsu dealer today and he said he hasnt gotton nething on it .. i asked him how often he was updated and he said everyday =/.. ne help would be nice =]
Yes, there is a bulletin about updated parts, However it is not a recall, so its possible that they wouldn't know about it unless they researched it.
I don't have a TSB Number, but ask him to look up a bulletin on UPDATED parts for 5th gear. Basically 5th gear has the weakest synchros and possibly some other problems, therefore one bad shift in 5th gear, or even general wear can cause the grind (I have heard of one person who had gotten it just after it was broken in)
Driving style does appear to be a factor in whether or not you'd experience the problem.
Generally, if you have had your clutch replaced, they may give you a hard time because they consider the people who burn up their clutches at low milage to be "Abusers".
But I have had my car's tranny serviced under warranty for the 5th gear grind, and they did repair it under warranty, they showed me the exploded diagram of the transmission with a section referring to "Updated Components" for the 5th gear and what appeared to be a few components on the Idler shaft (Possibly synchros)

I just got my 5th gear replaced due to grinds and when they showed me the synchro, it looked new. None of the teeth on the synchro were chipped or what not. It wasn't just 1 synchro that was replaced, but other parts of the tranny was too. Hopefully it's all good for now!

this TSB is not for updated parts. Its a TSB stating the installation instructions for the new (not updated) synchro sleeve. The older sleeves come with a groove on the outside for direction of install. The later sleeve comes with a paint mark. This is NOT an updated part. I have installed this sleeve in my tranny.
My dealership said that if a customer comes in complaining about the 5th gear/reverse grind that they will replace that sychro, this is all my tech gave me in reference to it, sorry for any confusion, but regardless they should fix it.

you dont "do" a TSB. A TSB is there only for the technician to further assist him in finding a fix for a problem that he has verified. You're probably thinking of a "Recall". Sometimes when a TSB shows many repairs it becomes a recall. This is after many repairs only.
