replacing drive shaft

ok everyone, so my drive shaft started making a rubbing noise a couple weeks ago, and just yesterday it turned into a loud clunking that i could lightly feel on my feet by the pedals. A lot of people have been saying that its because the seals wore off of the drive shaft which allowed dirt and road grime to get to where the seals once were. so i bought a drive shaft and while i'm waiting for it to arive it thought i would ask you guys a couple questions. First how do i keep my seals from coming off and messing up another drive shaft, my car only had 37000 miles?! Second, should i replace the drive shaft bearings along with the drive shaft? And Lastly is there any tips or tricks that i should know when taking the old one out and putting the new one it? i'm assuming its very simple, take the bolts off and drop the old one, put the new one up and bolt it on. Thanks in advance for the help everyone

Did you get under the car and see if your seals are still on? I doubt the seals came off. Do you possibly mean the drive axles instead of the drive shaft?

There's a large boot by the transfer case (or, in the back, the diff) and another behind the wheel. These can be punctured or torn by road hazards. I don't know what you can do to completely avoid this happening excepting putting the car on blocks. There are no seals on the drive axle itself.

It is a good idea to give all the axle boots an inspection anytime the car is up.
