Balance shaft seal cost me a rebuild

a couple months ago this had happend:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...light=oil+seal

I rebuild the motor replaced all the gaskets and inspected the front seal everything seemed fine.

I fired up the engine.. and then it started bleeding all over the ground

I took off the covers and started the car.. it turned out to be coming from behind the Balance shaft Seal had come off and was just sitting there

I pressed it back into place.. and then fired it up again and the leak was gone..

How on earth does a seal just work its way loose?

was it cuz of hitting the limiter that night? excessive RPM? dry out?

is this a common problem? do they have a history of failing?

I'm going to the dealer tomorrow to buy a new one and replace it just in case..

but now I have this paranoia.. what if it lets go again for some unknown reason.. and i lose an engine again?

Wierd. Have you messed with the oil ventilation system (PCV) at all?

the motor had sufferred detonation a few month prior while on an HPDE

a couple of the spark plugs had broken..

i replaced them and the engine ran fine and compression was ok..

having wiseco pistons I thought i had dodged a bullet

after awhile I noticed oil consumption had gone up.. and progessively got worse...

I had bad blow by

when I tore down the engine I discovered that 2 of the pistons Upper ring lands and rings had melted and fused and it it was essentially running on the lower rings only..

(bores were obviously scored and damaged)

when turn the motor over with no head i could hear a sucking sound through one of the cyls..

In the end I overbored the block again to 86mm and threw in some wiseco HD1400's

do you think combustion pressure was getting into the crank case and then blew out the Seal?

I think that once it passed the fire ring anything is possible. Did you replace the oil cooler after the rebuild?
