speedometer wobble?

I first noticed this a couple of days ago but it seemed to go away before I could really get a grasp on what was going on.

It seems to happen while the car is warming up and then go away after a bit. But I will start driving and then and then I will be cruising along, while my rpms are steady and everything else seems fine but my speedometer is wobbling up and down, this will happen at a range of speeds and the wobble can be +/- 10/15 mph.

Only thing I can think of is VSS? Which I'm pretty sure is towards the back of the transmission. Anybody else had a problem like this before, or know of any way I can test to figure out what it is?

I checked the service manual. You are going to love this......

1. Replace the speedometer.
2. If still not fixed, replace the speed sensor.

hrm... by speedo cable do you mean like a mechanical speedometer cable? I thought the vss sends out an electrical signal which is sent to the speedometer. Anybody know if I'm correct about this? If so I don't think you can replace the cable, either it's the speedometer in the guage cluster or the vss.

If it's the speedometer do I replace the whole gauge cluster and if so can I just get one from a total'd evo?

Thanks for all the help so far.

Ok, I grabbed a service manual and took a look. It looks like there is a fairly simple way to test the vss by hand, so I will try that and if it seems good, it looks like I'll have to worry about the speedometer.

I'm still confused as to why this only seems to happen while the car is warming up. If it's been on for a few minutes and been driven around even if you turn the car off and don't let it cool all the way when you turn it back on, it won't happen again.

I know on the dsm it was a mechanical cable. Im not sure if the evo has a electrical signal or what. Its too hot outside right now to go check maybe someone whos dealt with it can chime in.
