Parts Suggested for O2 and Ex mani

OK, I am about ready to install my MAP O2 housing and a ported exhaust manifold on my stock turbo IX with 42k on it. I already have an exhaust manifold stud kit (the one from FP) and I want to make sure I've got the parts I need before I tear into this. Is this a complete list? Do I need all this and/or what else will I run into?

Exhaust Manifold Gasket
Ex Mani to Turbo Gasket
Turbo to O2 Gasket
Turbo Bolts?
O2 Housing Bolts?
Crush Washers?
Oil Line Gasket?

I'll hose down all the bolts/studs with PB blaster and let it sit overnight before starting.

From the factory the turbine housing is fastened to the exhaust manifold via two bolts and two studs. I prefer to remove the two studs and replace them with bolts. So, I end up with 4 bolts instead of two bolts and two studs. This makes any subsequent turbo removal a whole lot easier.

I am not sure that the stock bolts will fit in the spot where the studs go however. As I think that the two factory bolts have relatively large 17mm heads. If I am not mistaken, you need to hunt down two bolts of the same size and thread as the factory bolts but with smaller 14mm heads because of the smaller diameter countersinks in the manifold.

Jim have you done the install? Can you confirm if all the parts you listed were right cause I'm about to do the same thing and need to order up the parts. Where did you get everything from?

Thanks!

Yes I have. I ordered 4 new Manifold-Turbo bolts but didn't have to use them. I hit everything with a heavy dose of PB blaster one afternoon. Let it sit and hit it again before I went to bed, let it soak overnight. No problems with the Turbo or O2 housing bolts/studs.

There is a kit from FP I got that covers most of what you would need, the Evo 8/9 Gasket kit which comes with crush washers, Turbo and O2 gaskets, etc:

I also got the ex manifold stud-nut kit from FP:

I re-used the OEM ex manifold gasket, just cleaned it up a bit and sprayed it with the Permatex Copper Gasket Compound before re-installing. Also used it on the turbo and O2 gaskets.

Do youself a favor and pull the radiator. Not a bad job at all once you do.

Only thing that caused me any heartburn was the O2 sensor in the OEM Housing. Holy ****. I've got the O2 offset socket and even using it with my SK breaking bar, it wouldn't budge. It rounded off the flats on the O2 sensor. Ended up getting one of the Bosch universal ones and splicing it in.

Thanks man! I don't think I'll have much of a problem either with the bolts since the car has low mileage and I'll PB blaster it for a few days. I am worried about the O2 sensor though...

Why did you need the exhaust manifold stud kit from FP? Couldn't you just reuse the studs and bolts?

Just in case, it's only like $15 anyway. I ended up leaving the studs in the head and just using the new copper plated locknuts from the FP kit.

I would recommend nordlock washers on your O2 housing, I used to have a hell of a time keeping it bolted up tight they were always coming loose, the nordlocks fixed the problem.
