Anybody know?...I just got my long block and head back from the machine shop for the second time after one of the JE wristpins snapped...the piston bent one valve I had it replaced and the head surface was machined. The guy at the machine shop told me to run a thicker gasket to increase the piston to valve clearance, the problem is I have not found the thickness of the stock one anywhere and I looked all over...

Don't know about the stock but I have seen aftermarket ones ranging from 1-2mm in thickness. You should take into account the compression ratio you will end up with before just adding in a thicker gasket.

It's something like .053 but don't quote me on that, but you're not really going to find anything much thicker. At least, I didn't when I was looking. How much did the machinist have to take off?

I've never heard anything like that. I'm starting to think the number uncompressed is .057", but MLS gaskets don't compress much, certainly not .020"!

EDIT: I'm finding everything from .050" to .060" when I try to find numbers, but most of them say these gaskets don't compress.

Bit late but the 5 layer metal OEM gasket is just under 1mm, the earler 3 layer ones fitted to early VIII's are 0.72mm.

no more guessing.
measure by me, on the kitchen table
i ended up using the Evo9 HG because i'm running an evo9 head and wanted a slightly thicker HG for lower compression.

Cheers, Mike
