FYI - evo6 vs evo9 headgasket

here are a couple of pics of each
Both are genuine Mitsubishi parts

The ridges inbetween the cylinders on the evo 9 gasket are proud and point out.
The ridges inbetween the cylinders on the evo 6 gasket are sunken.

There are various water/oil galley changes, 2 of them being completely blocked on the evo9 (at the bottom).

If anyone wants anymore pics, lemme know.

Cheers, Mike

I measured my Evo 9 headgasket at 0.040" inches using a Mitutoyo Digital Caliper close to the rivets (not near the fire ring, it's a little thicker like 0.042-44" there possibly compressing to 0.040-41" once torqued down on the engine). Felpro also lists their equivalent for a OEM Evo 9 Headgasket as 0.045" and 0.028" for a OEM Evo 8 HG so it's likely very close.

On a similar note I bought a JE ProSeal 0.051" headgasket for $80. It looks like it could be a decent aftermarket headgasket if you don't want to spend $300 on a HKS or $150 on a Cosworth. Comes in 87.3mm for 4G64 applications too, the one I got (MI1001-051) was a 86.3mm bore. 4 Layers MLS w/a stopper layer and made in Italy. I have a feeling they're actually made by Athena Racing Gaskets (P/N 338017R looks IDENTICAL to MI1001-051 down to packaging and both gaskets have the same "features").
