03' Evo 8 wont Idle - Just dies
Hey guys!
One day i started my car (98k miles), and it wouldnt idle. I could keep the car running if i gave it gas, other than that, it would die right away. Sometimes if i let it sit for awhile, then start it, it will run for about 5 minutes on its own then die.
After reading some threads, it seems like this could be my IAC?
I pulled it off and the teeth looked OK, it didnt turn. I didnt check the motor yet though, i saw a post after about checking with a meter to see if the motor is good or turning on the car with it not connected, correct? Would i really just disconnect it, and watch it as the car started to see if it moves? Sorry, noob here.
I thought about as a band-aid adjusting my idle speed via the screw on the throttle body, but everyone says thats a terrible idea, and i should adjust it via the ecu?
Just wanted to see if anyone has any other ideas to help me get my car running? Other things to look at, possible point of failures?
Thanks!

BUMP! I took it out again and all the points measured ~32 ohms, between middle and outer. Also, when listening and feeling it when starting car, i can hear it turn. So it seems that the motor portion is okay. My question is; How much is it supposed to turn. If i turn it all the way clockwise, it stops when it gets to the end and doesnt turn any more clockwise as the teeth seem to be in good shape and prevent it from screwing in any more. However, it can pretty much freely turn counter-clockwise...but that seems like it may be by design that its supposed to. When people say that the teeth go bad on these things, do they mean it spins freely both ways? Should i replace this?
Thanks for the help!
Thanks for the help!
It's your IAC Valve, had the same exact problem. Car would run if you kept holding gas, but otherwise will die.
Changed the IAC, and runs perfectly mint.
How many miles are on your car? They usually go out about 70k+

Thanks for the help guys, i was away from the computer for awhile. I had 98k miles on the car. found an IAC (used) and replaced it, car is working great again, but this used one was only in "OK" shape.
@evoryder I might be interested in yours as a replacement for this one, since it seems these things are kinda sketch. How much shipped to 98034?
Thanks!
