Normal idle RPM?
What is normal idle RPM? Im pretty sure it's on a sticker somewhere under the hood but it's cold and I am inside Anyone care to shed some light?
Recently, the Lancer has been just dying at random times. It'll start up most of the time, but sometimes, if I put the the car into neutral, the car dies. Other times, the car will start up and die. But most of the time it's fine. A local shop looked at the car, they replaced the battery, but it still happens.
Along with changing the battery, I think they also raised the idle RPM...it seems to be idling halfway between the 500rpm mark and the 1000rpm mark. So about 750-800 rpm is what my car is idling at right now.
Is this right? and what's causing the car to die out once in a while? Thanks in advance.

I am having the same issue. I also changed my battery just because mine was almost 5 years old and that didn't help. I was going to have my car ECUFlashed but they could not upload to my ecu. I was hoping doing that would fix my idle issues.

I adjusted mine to ~800rpm. It seems like the best solution for me since I have that under drive pulley and my rpm seems to be around 700 when I turn on the headlights and heat. When the lights are off it sometimes goes up to 900rpm. Anything over 900rpm will give you SES light saying idle bla bla bla too high.
You should look at your ignition system and MAF. Two of those would be the most likely to cause any problems with your car dying out.
How long has it been since you changed your spark plugs? Ignition wires? How many miles do you have on your car?
You could also try resetting the ECU. The weather in Chicago is stupid, one day it's 50 the other day it's 30...your ECU might have some problems adjusting. Try resetting it and see if it will happen again. Give it about a week or two to adjust to everything after resetting.

everything seems to be good now. The idle is down to around 600rpm and the engine hasn't died out. For now, at least, problem solved...but I did nothing. Oh well, will be back when the problem is back! Thanks for the help guys.

i think part of the idle changing back to normal was the ECU relearning the conditions since the shop replaced the battery and reset everything.
