Datalogger/Scan tool options?

I'm looking for suggestions on affordable datalogging setups for my Evo VIII. Ideally, I'd like something that works with a laptop and that can capture data frm the factory computer and then display it back graphically. It'd be really nice to have something that could also monitor and datalog from an aftermarket wideband O2 sensor setup.

Thanks for any suggestions,

RichJ

Pardon my ignorance on the matter, but which of these has been used to read knock count on an Evo VIII?

I don't believe any of them can do that. Reading the knock sensor is not a part of the standard OBDII interface. The only way to do that would be if first of all, Mitsubishi added support for it in the ECU. Then someone would have to know the specific request string to send in to read it. The OBDII interface is an ask and receive one at a time interface. Each sensor has a unique string. Does that help? The dsm pocketlogger may have the ability to do it because it was specifically written for DSMs. I have never worked with pocketlogger myself. Maybe someone else could chime in on that?

Maybe it was the pocketlogger I was thinking of. There have been many posts about reading knock count... I just didn't recall what device everyone doing so was using. However I want to run software off my laptop, which they don't support.

Anyone know of one I can use?

pocket logger for OBD II cars doesn't yet read knock, the man who created them is constantly trying to update it and has no idea how to get knock to read from OBD II cars, if anyone knows he says to IM him and he will update the software. As for now it doesn't read knock, however you can monitor knock by ignition curves...

My next purchase is this:
http://www.maxqdata.com/MQ125.htm

It has the ability to have 4 additional analog inputs as well as 5 pulse inputs.

I assume you should be able to hook it to the knock sensor.

For the record I have played with AutoTap and it recognizes only the most generic OBD-II sensor values on our Evos.
