Stock boost should be 19.5, tapering to 17 by redline. Most likely it would be a boost leak. If not, check wastegate, boost solenoid, exhaust leaks, etc...

I'd find out why its not hitting stock boost first and then get the MBC.

Like someone else said it could be a boost leak.

Is the car bone stock? Check for boost leaks like everyone says. If you dont know how its done, then take it to a tuner shop that has an air compressor that can do the test for you.

Since the car was purchased used, then previous owner may have altered the stock boost control setup. Some guys have EBC's, or MBC's, or Ecu based boost control with altered BCS's or different pills installed and when they go to sell the car they don't completely put it back to a stock fuctioning boost management.

Boost leak or vacuum hoses not connected right will cause that issue. Check the hose that connects to the nipple off the wastegate

sounds like a boost leak, a frend of mine had the same problem when he first bought his evo, turned out he had a broken stock BCS.

Can you or anyone else expand on which MAF wire would cause boost to only hit 15 psi?

When I first bought my Evo it had a MBC and was hitting 21 psi. There is no shaft play on the turbo and no boost leaks. I removed the MBC and reinstalled the BCS (because of my autox class) with the factory vacuum line with both stock pills and correctly routed. Now it only hits 15-16psi and tapers to about 14. We tried my buddies Evo 9 bcs which is know to work and there was no effect. The boost settings on the tune are 100% stock.

I have been trying to figure out why I am boosting 4-5psi low. This could be one possibility but which wire would cause this and is there a way to test it with a multimeter to make sure everything is electrically sound on the MAF and BCS?

This.

When a lotta of these cars are "returned" to stock to be sold, they dont put the OEM boost system back correctly and it will boost wastegate pressure, ie 11-14psi.

OP, I would recommend first doing a boost leak test. If it turns out ok, then I would pick what form of boost control you'd like to use (either MBC or 3port w/ ECU Boost), then go buy it and use it.

The op's question was from 2 years ago. I revived the thread because of the response I quoted. Does anyone know how to check the MAF to verify that it is working properly since apparently if a certain wire is broken or not making a connection you will only hit 15psi (which my car is doing also)?
