What turbo best suites me.

I'm throwing the idea around about upgrading my turbo over this winter.

As of right now my car sits like so:

Evo 8
ARP head studs
ported evo 9 turbo
1000cc injectors
walbro 255
kelford 272's (Not installed as of yet)
Buschur intercooler + piping

You get the idea.

As for my driving style, this car is my solid DD. I drive it everyday everywhere. I'm looking to keep my drive-ability somewhat good. However, I'm also looking into making +400whp.

The way I look at it, Is I can upgrade my injectors and run e85 on my stock 9 turbo if need be (and be close to 400).

OR

I can upgrade to a new turbo, and run 93 octane (Much closer to my house).

My dilemma is finding a turbo that fits perfectly into my criteria. From what I read I can go with an fp red but I really enjoy the spooling characteristics of my evo 9 turbo.

Either way, I'm looking for some advice. What turbo's do you think would work out best?

Let me know what you think.

BBK Full or HTA Green, hands down. Be sure not to skip little stuff like testpipe, megan o2 housing, ported manifold(s). All lend to a super fun street setup!

Wat??

When picking out a turbo, keep in mind that they almost all cost the same. An FP Green is not much less than a Red or Black. So, I would recommend a red personally, so that when you get sick of the green power, you have room to grow. It would cost the same, and we have shown it has minimal lag for huge power gains.

With emery tuning your car though, keep in mind that you can go mid 11's on 93 octane and street tires, trapping around 117 mph, so that may be fast enough for you, and you could take the $1500 you would spend on a turbo upgrade and spend it on something else for the car, like a nice intake manifold, etc...

Forgot to say... I have a full exhaust, and an QTP open dump as well as a ported exhaust manifold.

Quick question... What are thoughts on e85 with my current fuel set up?

with a single pump and the 1000cc injectors your goin to max that single pump out quick on an upgrded turbo... the stock turbo you should be fine, with few more mods and a fp red the spool isnt that much slower than 9 turbo, also with the red and 93 you should see well over 400hp. i will have a full fp red set up for sale in about 2 months if your still looking pm me then..im really happy with my red just want more power so going bigger

e85 is the route i'd go to maximize my stock turbo.

I know people run much beefier set ups so I am just curious whether my set up will allow me to get the most out an e85 tune.

If i do go the fp red route I'll definitely keep an eye out for your thread.

If you go E85, is it easily accessible for you? You mentioned this is your DD so you will need to fuel up more often than for a track car. Something to consider also.

e85 is close by.

But I also set my car up for map switching on the fly this year for this particular reason.

Run out of e85 = put 93 in and switch maps.

Cha-ching!

I would suggest the FP red. We have used it with great luck.

As far as the single pump goes it will net you about 450 whp on our dyno with E-85 and around 525 whp on pump gas at 8k. The red with e-85 is a great setup. I would be very interested to see your car run that with the stock ECU.

I'd say get the Red too. If you end up with the Green or BBK you'll be stuck wanting more power

Don't rule out the new HKS GTII turbo either, stock-like spool with great power up top, especially with E85. I know there haven't been a ton of reviews of it yet, but the preliminary findings look really promising.

+1

Ball Bearing for a DD with stock like spooling. Def going to keep an eye on this one.
