Wink cams help for my build

hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me choose the right cams for my build. I'll start by saying for the moment I would like to keep my springs and retainers oem. I have a 03 VIII. I jus got done putting in pte gt3282 and in the process of getting some 1200cc to run E 85. I wanna build it to where it performs decent all around and not just focused for drag or autocross. I have heard the hks 280 do well with oem. any input would be great. thanks for your guys help in advance.

I think the 280s will be pushing the stock valvetrain...and if not, I don't think they are for you. you said you want all around performance not just focused on drag or autocross (top end or bottom end)

also you have to take into account where you are revving to...
bigger cams arent always better. Is loosing all that bottom end and extra lag worth the top end?
or do you want a mix of both?

to save some money you could look into delta camshaft, they make regrinds for like 250-300 for both cams.
I am getting mine done by them this week...I am getting the HKS 272/272.

to answer your question I think you have some options.

If you aren't revving to the moon, a 264/272 combo has your name all over it...you will gain some good bottom to mid end power.

If you want a mix of both worlds (loosing minimum bottom end and still getting top end, go with 272/272.

If you wanna be a drag king get the 280s.

Also how aggressive do you want to go?

Kelfords are great if you want really aggressive cams.

I would look into either the new grind HKS, or the new grind GSC S1's.

You should search the forum as there was a recent thread with a cam poll. I was planning to get kelford 272 but someone made me change my mind and now I just ordered some gsc s2. I recommend upgrading the spring/ retainers since you've upgrade your turbo just incase you want to go over 7k rpm. Kelford or Gsc s2, take your pick! Lol

if your staying with oem springs and retainers, i would stick with hks 280. but i would try the new hks 272.

S1's, S2's, or even S1/S2. I will be replacing my 5 year old GSC's with S1/S2 and a new set of no tick lash adjusters. Stock springs

I'm going with comp 280's and I'm trying to have the same feel for my car as you do. I think they will do well with an FP red or black on my car and have good street drivability.

fwiw, I have been running comp280s on stock valve train to like 8100 for 5k. No problems so far with vavle springs/floating issues.

Call them up, then you would send your cams in and they will regrind them anyway you want.

This is their new number...253-383-4152

wow, I heard they were more aggressive then the HKS 280s...I seem to forget your stock springs are better than the stock DSM springs haha.

Still you wouldn't be able to rock a set of Kelford 280s because they put excessive lift in a small duration cam. Like Kelfords 272 cams have the same lift as other manufacturer's 280 and 288 cams. So I would imagine the Kelford 280s would be crazy.

Like comparing lift....Kelford's 272 duration at .05" lift is 226/226 and Hks 272s are 213/213 at .05".

So basically, It isn't about duration, its about lift.

It's about both. It's about centerlines. It's about duration at 1mm or .050" vs advertised duration and the resulting ramp rate. It's about proper engineering, testing, and results. It's about all of that coming together and working and doing what it's supposed to. Sometimes that means paying more, cams area not an area to be cheap.

FYI, Delta is not what I would put in an Evo.
