Can I run E85 on 93oct Tune?

Hey guys,

An E85 pump finally opened up not too far from me. I am currently tuned for 93oct only.

Can I fill up on E85 to get the added benefits of higher octane without being tuned for it, or will my car run worse?

Cheers!

You could run into a lean condition and that can lead to problems. Remember that it takes almost twice as much to burn E85 than it would regular pump gas. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

No you cannot, you need bigger injectors and fuel pump to deliver enough e85.

You need to have injectors to handle it and a tune before blowing the engine up.

I tried searching but most combinations of words I tried would not be used because they were too common. I don't have under 10 posts in 8 years by not searching often.

I have a Walbro and 1200cc injectors. My question was regarding the tune. I am familiar with what is required to run E85 from the mechanical side.

e85 will require timing tweak at peak torque along with richening the fuel big time since e85 uses 30% more fuel. - not to mention injector size rescaling and deadtime latencies.

That will be just enough fuel pump to get you close to 500whp and no more.

However, pumping E85 onto a 93 octane tune will result in a severe condition. Basically, the car will be undrivable.

To use E85, you will need to be tuned for E85.
