ac clutch malfunction? evo undriveable

today i was driving the evo from the store and then did a 1st gear wot pull for fun. after that i hear a strange noise like a groaning sound and the engine stalled shortly after that. smoke came out of the hood with a strong burning smell and i believe its from the ac compressor. i can see the ac compressor clutch quickly engages and then disengages continuously. it does this even without turning the ac on.

i planned on going to awdmotorsports for a retune soon... is there anyway i can stop the ac clutch engaging/disengaging temporarily? its so i can drive it to the dealer without having to get a tow truck. its making the evo stall everytime it idles and it doesnt feel safe... i think the serpentine belt could snap off. any help would be great.

Sounds stupid, but did you turn the AC off in the car?, how about pulling the fuse? AC shouldnt be cycling if its off. Just a thought. Check the AC compressor case--if its leaking its broken-- I've had this happen.

find the connector under the hood that powers the ac compressor I thing is right next to it and unplug it, that should stop it from engaging.

Get an ac delete belt so that you can drive the car. The same thing happen to me. You going to need a new compressor.

No because you need a shorter belt that passes by the ac compressor to avoid spinning it.

It shouldn't, if the clutch is engaging that means power is getting to the electro-magnetic clutch, disconnect power and it should spin freely, unless the issue is with the clutch engaging without power going to it, which then you will have no choice but to either replace the compressor, remove compressor and get the shorter belt for ac delete.

The unenergized state is clutch disengaged.

it won't engage, it will spin freely.

unplug it and just run with a normal serpentine until you can get another compressor, save a few bucks a headache of changing it out.
