What is the best coolant as far as:
- Actual cooling goes
- Anti Freeze (frequently under freezing temps in winter)
- CORROSION inhibiting properties
As far as I've gathered, any time you use water in your coolant, you're basically exposing your system potentially to corrosion. Cars like mine that sit for long stretches, definitely. Coolants are a lot more complicated than I originally thought. It's not just a matter of color - there are additives, inhibitors, chemicals that are different for every coolant. It's not just getting the green stuff, and adding half water. Water alone is a question - distilled (I believe we've dispelled this to be a no-no), purified/RO water, tap, etc. Then all the chemicals that go into coolant...
What I've found so far:
- Seems like Evans Waterless is OUT as far as cooling properties - for whatever reason, they DO run much hotter than a "normal" coolant (http://www.norosion.com/evanstest.htm - biased obviously, but still good info)
- Ethylene Glycol based coolants are flat-out superior to Propylene based (i.e., Amsoil's is OUT, Evans is double-out)
- One dude on a Jeep forums had some serious problems with Amsoil's version of water wetter (http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produc...code=RDCBCN-EA) as far as corrosion
- Looking into this no-rosion stuff (http://www.no-rosion.com/productpage.htm)
- Mitsubishi's green coolant is a special non-silicate version of the coolant. Don't use off the shelf green, use Mitsubishi's (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums...2931218&page=2)
- Peak Global Lifetime seems to be a good coolant.

Right now I'm thinking of using either Peak Global Lifetime or Zerex Asian for our cars, add water wetter maybe.
Might be worth it to flush the system with this
and then switch to the desired coolant
Above mentioned goals: Cools efficiently, antifreeze, no corrosion

Interesting. Is that an equivalent to oem mitsu coolant?
edited.. After re reading a bit better I get it now.. Just throw in some water to top it off to get you to the dealer. It looks like you may have stripped the drain plug on the radiator. I dont think its that big a deal as you should be able to get a new one on there.

thanks all - I got peak long life 50/50 prediluted antifreeze & coolant, in a blue jug. hopefully it'll be fine. I'm just going to fill it up and run it over to the dealer.
I also use the Peak Global. I don't think there is a "High performance" coolant. I know there's Engine Ice for dirt bikes and ATV's, but don't know if you'd want to run it in your car or not.
