I'll say a prayer for your friend's Driveline. Hope he won't have to pay out-of-pocket.

T-Case is gone. I'm 100% sure of this as it happened to me when the police towed my car.

Yeah hopefully tcase is the only issue. Tow companies are rarely responsible about the damage they do. The driver totally knew it was awd. These guys work with cars like 10+ hours a day.

Anyone who touches your property is absolutely for any damage that occurs as a result. The burden is upon you to hold that party accountable. That has to be documented immediately, and the car should not be driven until an inspection (ultimately at their expense) is made. In this case, the owner is likely SOL, simply because the towing company can claim that the damage could have happened afterward and therefore it would be tough to hold them accountable.

The intelligent thing to do with any vehicle is to actually read the owner's manual, which in this case, towing instructions are stated clearly in sections 6-16 and 6-17 (EVO VIII). If you have any reason whatsoever to think that your vehicle may be towed with or without your permission, explain this to whomever is in custody of your car, preferably with a witness present.

So when the transfer case blows, your car is automatically limited to driving 20mph?

Or is something else wrong? No reason in being a smart ***.

You technically could tow it with a conventional wrecker if the driver uses wheel dollies on the back (or front, whichever are on the ground) wheels.

Just saying. Sounds like a ****ty situation and hope you get it resolved.

Bad times man. Definitely go after the toeing company. They should know that you can't toe AWD cars using that method. What an idiot toe truck driver.

About 6 months ago, I saw an EvoX being towed by a regular tow truck. I was like the TC is toast.

it may just be missing a few teeth. Drive it some more and it may limit to just 10 MPH. :|

yup car is toast for sure. I dont see why sooooooooooooooooooooooooo many people are alike go after tow company first of all the second it happened or after the towing he should have confronted the tower then not wait weeks. Second HE SIGNED OFF ON IT. most tow companies require you to pay and sign off and once you do that guess what your oking it. YOUR FRIEND will be buying new parts hope he has 2500 in parts money + money for labor for not realizing a evo is AWD. Expensive lesson he will be learning or saling his evo soon

come on be kind

arn't tow truck drivers suppose to check for like.... a prop shaft going down the middle of the car? this is really careless on their part, you really can't ever trust them.

because tow truck drivers are suppose to be 'professionals'... this is what they do for a living, they are the experts to understand how the vehicles should be properly towed.....the vehicle owner can be dumb as **** it doesn't matter, knowing how to tow his own vehicle is beyond the point, should he know how to change his oil or his brakes?... just like anything else on the car.. for example, would it be his fault if he had directional tires and the tire shop put them on backwards? or the jeffy lube who rotated his tires and put them on the wrong side?

C'mon, in this case there is one of two reasons why the wrecker driver towed the car. a) He is a dumba$$ and did not notice the propshaft or the noises of a awd car being towed like a 2wd. In which case he should turn in his man card. OR b) The dude fully understood what he was doing and didn't care because he knew the kid would have a tough time pinning blame on the company for internal transmission damage. Esp when the kid signed off on the car and has already paid with time now. A buck is a buck and some people are thieving little bastards.
