Billet Output Shaft???

So my car died at the drag strip. Killed the new bushwacker tranny and stock T case while ripping the output shaft off into the t case. Yes, it was bad, 3 bad gears some jacked up syncros and some other stuff.

I plan on going to the strip much more so I have some questions.

I am going with a Shep Stage 2, Ultimate gear ratio and stage 3 T-Case with Quafe. There is an option for a Custom Billet output shaft, which I ordered. It has been almost 2 months now and it has yet to come in from their supplier.

Is this part necessary in anyones opinion? While the car has been down, I went ahead and added an FP red and Kelford 272 cams and have just about all the supporting mods.

Is this part really going to help save me future issues? Does anyone have this or experience with it?

Not necessary, im making 720 wheel on Buschur's mustang dyno and have never broke the shaft. Only thing ive had fail was 4th gear and synchros. And ive made around 250 passes in the last few years.

Did you dump the clutch at launch without loading the gears? If you did
Check out Jon at T.R.E. he will get you going right...

What does loading gears mean? I didn't dump it, more of a quick release of the clutch.

I broke one years ago. Don’t know the hp but car was trapping 132. It was my fault for being to aggressive with the clutch. I did however replace it with one from a company called PPG and never had a problem again. . It was cheap like 250.00.

I agree with the launch thing, it's way hard on stuff without loading the drivetrain.

I would personally wait for the part, his supplier makes really nice stuff, i had a FWD 1g dsm that he got me a front diff spool for, that thing was absolutely amazing.

its taking the slop out of the driveline so that when you launch the drivtrain isnt shocked

Sorry, but how is this accomplished? I understand taking the slop out, but what are the steps to do this?

Slowly letting the clutch out untill you can feel it start to drag, this "loads" the drivetrain. You can also use the e-brake method but I haven't tried that one yet. From that point you can quick slip the clutch and its a lot easier on the drivetrain. You're lessening the inital shock off of the gears by taking the slack out of the drivetrain before putting the power to it.

I'm guessing you were doing straight clutch dumps, I did the same thing when I got my car. Four runs (300whp) and BOOM, off to Shep for a trans build w/output shaft and a stage 3 t-case with a new ring/pinion. I read up and learned how to launch the car after that.

Theres a ton of threads in the driving techniques section about launching.
